What price for my Brompton?

I have 2 folding bikes, but when I am finished paying off my Brompton on Cyclescheme at the end of March, I will either advertise it for sale on here or whack it on ebay. I am now moving to a more remote village in the next couple of months, so I really need to think about going down the Hybrid/Cyclocross/MTB route for a 2nd bike.

I know auction can be risky but if I was to advertise in classifieds what price should I ask?

It’s a 2013 Brompton Barcelona Edition, with unused Edition S-bag. Hardly used the bike at all. Saddle also unused since I bought and fitted a Brooks Ltd Edition Bike Polo Mandarin Orange saddle, also paid extra for some eazy wheels.

I will probably get more money taking the Brooks off and selling it separately but just wanted some views in the meantime.

Cheers

Bromptons hold their value very well generally and if the congestion charge is going up again it may prompt a few more people into wanting one to avoid driving into London. Also if you word your adverts right for the unique and limited nature of the bike you might attract a Brompton collector or bike geek willing to pay a premuim for the exclusivity rather than simply for a commuter with no colour taste (sorry but its scheme is not my cuppa). You could also try a classified ad in a specialist mag such as AtoB (www.atob.org.uk) although the coverage of that is very small and it may linger for quite a while for want of other outlets.

I'd knock a couple of hundred off and see what interest you get.

Great thanks, I appreciate the views. The bike wouldn’t have been my first choice if I wasn’t buying it through Cycle to Work. The colours do stand out for sure but I am hoping the fact it is an edition and also that Brompton’s seems to resale well might help.

I am not looking to be greedy out of the deal, just try and walk away at the end of it with money around what to what I paid for it. By the time it’s all paid for I would have gotten about a 25-30% discount then I guess i might be achievable.

PS: when researching hybrids last night I came across a bike shop/site in Singapore I think that sells an aftermarket seatpost for a Brompton. It has 5 LED lights built into the seatpost and seems pretty cool. I saved the link to my home tablet and will put it on here if anyone is interested.
