We need a song with a simple tune and simple lyrics that represents all that is uniquely British. I vote for the Ying Tong Song.

The Proclaimers "500 miles" gets my vote. Being a royalist I do like like the current national anthem, although perhaps some of the words could do with rewriting.

I really don't understand why we're discussing this again? Precisely, could someone tell me, what is so wrong with a national anthem that exalts the empty qualities of an outdated monarch, who happens to be both useless and parasitic?
You only have to listen to the rousing words of the anthem to realise that it extols the very best things about England as a land; the countryside, its people, its culture and when its played it certainly brings a tear to the eye of nationalists, fascists and other reactionaries everywhere. You only have to look at the athletes, whom upon achieving Gold sing out the words in such a high state of excitement and dizziness that they may as well be singing out 'Rocking all Over the World', it's that meaningful.
Whoever suggests 'Jerusalem' as an alternative, surely knows nothing about the history of the monarchy...sorry, I mean the country.
