I made no comment about my preferences for either of those options. But I'm sure that won't stop you making assumptions about my preferences.

Just checking. Is mentioning not liking Rap music in a llght-hearted thread racist?

Anyway, off to the club for a couple of hours so please carry on without me.
I'm sorry that you find such matters uninteresting enough to discuss in earnest and yet sufficiently fascinating to chip in about them at every opportunity.

I grew up in a white and very conservative area of the country, and the appeal of hip hop to young people was a source of near-hysterical moral panic to adults in general and authority-figures in particular. What do you think bugged the middle classes of Surrey about it?

Anyway, anyone who dares to try and bin Bring the Noise can have their wish... as long as they can win a freestyle rap battle with Chuck D.

This poster was so outrageously sexist that no self-respecting student would dream of putting it on his wall next to The Who Maximum R&B poster that came with The Who Live At Leeds LP and the black and red Che Guevara poster nicked from the student common room after a night on the booze.

You can buy a copy on eBay for less than a fiver. I'm not quite sure how I know that.....

To be fair, I remember the same moral panic surrounding acid house so I don't think it's exclusively a race thing.

Interestingly, if you wanted to get rid of both hip hop and acid house as we know them, the cultural artefact to destroy would probably be the Roland TR-808.

Oi! Leave my patron saint out of this...
I'm honoured you think of me that way, but I did sort of start the argument myself.
