It's big business. The joyriders and radio thieves of the 80s and 90s are long a thing of the past. Cars are stolen to order, keys nicked in a burglary, or on some models a whole new ECU fitted and off onto a RO-RO to the continent/further afield. Big, organised, lucrative, sophisticated. And yes, professional.
I was on a jury for just such a crime a couple of years ago.
Lithuania, since you ask.

I think they do! Isn't it more the Christian Democrats and Christian Socialists who have a problem with it, due to the Sermon on the Mount telling people to turn the other cheek?
Quite a few similar situations are dealt with in this book, concerning the victim dealing with the perpetrator of the crime
In case, advising someone to 'look the other way', if they see the person the Magistrates didn't put into Custody, because if he 'knocked seven shades' out of the scrote, the Magistrates would find space for him in in Jail, "All Day Long!!"

The pole and hook car key burglary is known as a 'two in one' or 'Hanoi' burglary.

Two in one presumably refers to the keys and car being nicked.

Hanoi is supposed to come from one of the Yorkshire police forces whose Operation Hanoi targeted that type of crime a few years ago.

If the door key is on the same key ring as the car key, the really cheeky thieves will then use it to open the front door and nip in and grab your telly, Sky box, mobile phone and anything else lying around and then use your car to transport them all away...

Yep, West Yorks. They date back in my memory to the late 90s when we saw the first ones.

That can happen, although the classic Hanoi allows thieves to get the car without entering the house.

This is good because there's less chance of tripping a burglar alarm or a confrontation with the householder, which in turn might prevent the successful stealing of the main target - the expensive car.

In several of the cases I've seen, the first thing the householder knows about the burglary is when he looks out of his window in the morning and notices the car isn't on the driveway.
