Having once been treated for skin cancer I avoid sunny climes.

Being in busy places brings out my pathologically violent side, so London, New York, Paris were all out.

In the end I took Mrs Drago II to Torshavn in the Faroes, where we enjoyed an utterly enchanting 2 weeks. I'd very much like to revisit with a few bikes in my hand luggage ;)
Actually, Mr TF has always wanted to go to the Faroes.

Congrats MissTilly :bravo:
Frankly, i can see where the holiday company are coming from, we're just trying to sort our hols out for the summer...and i'm gobsmacked at the price hikes this year.
But, most holidays in europe are circa £500 PW each full board or all inclusive, maybe a bit more. We're looking at £2K for 2 persons, 2 weeks in Spain, Greece etc, even Turkeys not much cheaper.
Egypt and tunisia tend to be a bit cheaper, but not as cheap as people say, and then you sactrifice some comfort, quality of food. quality of resorts etc.

Dominican should be achievable as well, we just looked for that time (July Aug) and we were quoted £2600 for 2 persons, 2 weeks....depends on how long you're going for of course. 1 week is available for just arou nd £1K each all inclusive on First Choice. Theyre different resorts, different hotels of course, just rough ideas, you need to do serious homework on the hotels etc (if youre like us)
July Aug is technically in the hurricane season, but friends of the wife were there 2012 about that time and had a couple of windy days and a tad of rain, no problem at all.
Hope that helps.

Have you had a look at Sharm el Sheikh Egypt (not the mainland where the troubles are but on the Sinai Peninsula )
You will get cheapish packages there and you can lie on the beach all day doing nothing and hubby to be can , scuba dive , water ski . up on a parachute thing , or my fav when i was last there go out into the Sinia desert on quads to get fleeced by a bloke selling cheap tat , have some tea and then ride back through the vastness of a dessert.
Or if he is mad , go on a day trip up Mount Sinai (where Moses got the 10 Commandments)
1 of the commandments should have been , Thou shall not drive a coach on bad roads with sheer drops like a man possesed and scare the living crap out of your passengers .

Great for a winter break but July/Aug it will be blistering hot.

I like the idea of a resort that has lots of activities and sports stuff though. Perhaps a Sandals type resort somewhere on the med?

Congratulations.

That would be convenient, we're getting married in Mirfield.

Aha! Then you can join the local CC at Mirfield on Sun am for their run, whilst staying at somewhere delightful nearby. Not that I can think of somewhere delightful in Mirfield.

On another thought, that's about 3 miles from me  .

Where I go on holiday to France is about £1000 per person, with pool, etc. during school holidays. Activities are organised too. But it's not a hotel; we get a mobile home for that price.

I can't help but congratulations.:bravo:

I haven't even thought about our honeymoon. Probably somewhere with steam trains, old trucks, or tractors, though it may well be spent working on the house.

Here's somewhere worth visiting:

Traction Engines, narrow gauge railways and standard gauge stuff with extensive horticultuaral wares on offer and a steam galloper to boot.

Bressingham Hall

Then there's the following nearby attractions.......

Thursford Steam Collection (traction engines and organs)

Strumshaw Steam Museum (traction engines and steam wagons)

North Norfolk Steam Railway (coastal steam railway)
