A near miss is contradictory, like smart casual.

I don't think the issue is about the definition of "near miss". We should all know what a "near miss" is.

This guy describes it better in 24 seconds that the rest of you have in the last 4 pages:

'Nuff said.

And to ALL you otherwise intelligent people who have just given a wrong definition, please collect your dunce's cap and sit in the corner and repeat

'I am a nobber'

1000 times!

All I'm seeing is a large black box. Should there be something there?

WOW, near miss.... I mean near hit!!

Considering it is a clip of the video about him on about airlines and flying (the rest is NSFW), a black box is apt!! :giggle:

Go to Youtube and type in 'George Carlin Near Miss' (I appreciate you are most likely joking, but the rest 'George Carlin On Airlines And Flying' I probably couldn't post here anyway).

The horse can do far more damage to their car than a mere bike and human can!
Indeed. The average horse one encounters on the road weighs about 700kg. As with any living being, a horse's manner is not always totally predictable. We always give horseriders plenty of warning of our approach; usually with a call of 'Cyclists behind', followed by slowing down and with as wide a berth as the road allows. And it's worked for us. The riders will almost invariable note your consideration with a cheery wave or verbal acknowledgement. And I for one do not propose tangling with 700kg of nervous horsemeat - !:giggle:

Perhaps what your colleague is experiencing is something we've all just become used to. Give him time and soon he'll only be moaning about the ones that are only two inches away, not a foot.
I think this is the big one, your colleague is working through the stages of cycling. Is at everyone wants to kill me moving towards RIGHTEOUS CAMPAIGNER. Somewhere after that they'll find generally chilled.

I view anyone who passes me at speed and doesn't come close to crossing the white line on their right as close. If they did it out of nowhere and feel to be around a foot away that feels too near. If they make me swear involuntarily then it was definitely too near.
