If you want a cheap drinkable red then Aldi do a vintage claret for less than £4 that is remarkably palatable.

And if push comes to shove, it can double up as a remarkably effective chain cleaner

Joking aside, Aldi stock some really good wines. I bought a couple of bottles of their Beerenauslese (a German sweet dessert wine) and it was excellent.

Non-vintage years of Mme HF's sometimes end up in Aldi/Lidl/Leader, on the continent though, the Brits claim not to like sweet wine. (Despite the amount of sugar they put in everything else).

You can't pick a wine just from the grape - that's like choosing beer based on the hop variety. It's what they do with it that matters.

slightly O/T....You're right about the sugar in other things a small yogurt can contain the equivalent of 6 teaspoons of sugar:wacko:

I quite like Rose especially in pubs when it isn't as variable as the white wine they may have on offer.

I also like a sweet wine and really liked one, but I forgot it's name so haven't had it for ages, the only thing I remember about it was that it was 6%

I'm not a wine expect and have been known to choose a bottle based on the label:blush:

Thanks for the reminder to stock up with some 'wreck the hoose juice' for this weekends Knockengorroch festival. It will make a potent cocktail with my overproof rum and absinthe - 'nuke the hoose juice'
