hi all,

its that problem again blo0dy flat after flat!

had a flat tyre last fri; changed the inner tube; only to have another yesterday!! different place, but the tyre has a few skid damaged spots (hard braking!) and those places seem to be giving way due to blo0dy glass sprinkled on roads plus sharp spiky stones (london).

think its time up. these are continental grand prix 4000s. only around 1500miles.

i do like a red lining on my tyres as that goes really well with my bike.

want something more reliable this time.

thinking of [edit]
- specialized espoir elite (no tpi mentioned, but..)
- michalin pro4 endurance (150tpi)
- vittoria corsa cx (320tpi but cotton tyres - what's that?)

i guess tpi is not an absolute measure of protection but something to go by..

any reviews, comments, suggestions please?

cheers
j

Conti 4000s are solid, dependable tyres and I'm surprised they only lasted 1500 miles. Perhaps you need to look at your braking technique, planning well ahead and not suddenly dropping anchor...^_^

Lol Actually it's just 3 emergency hard brakings, paying the pice for it..

I do like the conti 4000s. This is not the first time though. Previously also I changed one tyre as it was giving too much grief.

Surprised, i saw that but that's only 67 tpi?
They are a much heavier tyre than those you've listed and dare I say it virtually p'ture proof. I use them on my commuter (london) and in approx 7-8000 miles the front is still going strong and I replaced the rear after 5000miles. Only had one p'ture and that was caused by a crash which badly buckled the wheel.

I think we've all done that at some point!

Specialized Espoir Elite are what Spesh put on new bikes to save money, a budget tyre with a wire bead. They ride very dull and sluggish but they look thick.

Michelin Pro 4s for me every time.

Used to use Durano + and will probably switch back when the weather gets really nasty but now use Pro 4 Endurance.

The Duranos are great for puncture protection but compared with the Pro 4 are like cycling through treacle since changing to Pro 4 I am much faster.

Another vote for the Durano Plus from me. I had 3 flats on the Spesh Espoir Elites fitted to my bike as standard so changed to Durano Plus and they have been solid so far and roll well. I will use these over winter and on rough roads as I have full confidence in them in all conditions.
