It is The Royal West Of Scotland Amatuer Boat Club, or Royal West for short, and the 'Royal' bit was granted by Queen Victoria, so it does have some connection.

Greater Manchester Cycle on the Monday, sod all on the Tuesday, off work the rest of next week

Nothing Liz related, it's not my bag tbh

Guys, most people in catering don't get extra for working bank holidays.

I don't either, I get the day added into my annual allowance to take off when it suits me. We do usually get let out a bit early, and a lot of people assume we aren't working so don't put their boxes out, so we get done quickly. The downside is the week after, when they've all got twice as much.

Next week will be heavy I reckon, with all the booze and pop bottles and party food boxes.

Career wise we all make or have made our own choice, if you got it wrong in your own opinion then you only have your self to blame.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
User482, make your mind up you want the day off so be thankful we have a Queen and a very good one at that.
Alternatively wonder why you don't live in Germany. No monarch - they very sensibly opted for a republic - the most efficient workers in Europe, and anything from 11 to 13 public holidays a year depending on where you live. We get 8.

I have just worked this one out. I had thought it was a random Tuesday holiday for everyone, but it now appears it is an English bank holiday on the Monday and you lot are therefore getting a longer weekend. It's not a Scottish bank holiday so we get a random Tuesday off work - how very British.

All this talk of working Public Holidays, paid days off and days off in lieu only has any relevance if you are contracted or PAYE, if I don't work I don't earn money whatever day it is.

I'm lucky to be able to work this way as it's up to me when and how long I work which is a freedom contracted or PAYE people don't have- there are advantages to both systems. If you haven't got a job, one day is the same as another which must be frustrating.

Days off are precious and not to be frittered away. Bananas or pineaople are nice but not apple...

I believe there are 11-13 in France, 11 in Italy, and up to 14 in Spain. So regardless of whether you're productive or not, have royalty or not, you can be confident that the UK is getting a bum deal. We have the queen to thank, apparently.

in Europe if a public holiday falls on a Saturday or a Sunday it's not moved to the Friday or a Monday as in the UK..
