Quick question for you all.
I am not in full possesion of all of the facts yet but this is the situtation.

I purchased new 7 OS maps off ebay over the weekend. I requested a reduction in the P&P for a multiple purchase which was given to me.

This afternoon my postie has knocked on my door and basically told me my parcels are being held due to some reason (he thinks it is likely a 1st class/large packet issue) and I need to pay £10.50 to get them released to me. My postie knows I only have a bike for transport etc and live rurally so has offered to collect them for me, so I have given him the £10.50 and explained it is an ebay purchase, so he knows I need a receipt and reason.

From what little information is available at the moment, it seems the seller has sent 7 parcels for 7 maps to the same person and each single one of them has the wrong postage on them.

Would you take this up with the seller directly or involve the dreaded Paypal from the word go? I ask because the impression I got when I was purchasing these maps was that it was stock clearance or similar and whilst I have no issues in paying the correct postage, I object to having to pay it 7 times over. I will add including P&P my total expenditure for the 7 maps was less than £15 which is basically the cost of 2 brand new maps and these maps are all 2008 dated, so pretty much the current edition for where they are. I don't understand why the maps were not sent as 1 parcel.

Anyone any thoughts before I contact ebay & paypal for advise?

Contact the seller 1st - that's what PayPal will tell you to do. That way they have the chance to "make good" on the situation as the mistake was theirs (i.e. they've not paid sufficient postage). Send them a copy of the reciept from the post office proving the charges.

If the seller doesn't respond or refuses to cover the extra costs then refer to PayPal.

And I can't understand why all 7 maps weren't in the same parcel either. Madness!!!!

If I was certain that it is the Ebay item(s) then I would be tempted to refuse them unseen and without knowing what they are. They would then be returned to the seller (I think) who would then need to resend with the correct postage. In the meantime I would be asking the seller for a delivery date as it appears to be late or lost.

However, now I would go with the suggestions above to see what the seller says about it. Your total costs should be refunded as it isn't your fault the postage is insufficient.
