I am looking to trade in my old Shogun Cult Mountain Bike which I've out grown for my first road bike (considering we only have fine gravel cycle paths and roads here).
I was originally looking at the Triban 3 which had received high praise on this forum but due to delivery restrictions (thanks to living in the Channel Islands... even though delivery is the same as the UK) I can't order from decathlon.co.ukI

I have found another one on Amazon.co.uk and was wondering what you thought of it?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00518LD3O/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A3OITWRDM9TOMM

It's a nice offer, 22% off and free shipping instead of the £50 I would of had to pay for a courier.

Do you think it is a good bicycle for going into road cycling?

Thanks in Advance

Can you get from Decathlon in France maybe?

I'm not convinced on that Raleigh. Quite a nice, retro look though. 28mm tyres as stock seems a bit of an odd choice. Any chance of looking for something second hand, that's local? Saves on the p&p headache and gives the option of test riding first...

Nope
Living here is a pain, you either pay stupid amounts for shipping (made a mistake, it was £90 for the courier) or you cannot get it shipped.

I am guessing the bike isn't the best (hence your avoidance?)

The local shops only stock road bikes starting at about £550 which is well out of my price range.
And the papers only have children's bikes.

Entry level Raleighs aren't too much cop in truth, and that Giro is as basic as they come (steel fork, bog basic gearing). I'd save up a bit really

Woops, sorry... deleted the post...

I have found someone offering a 'Specialised Secteur Triple' for £325 used on a local cycling club website. They posted it four months ago though, so I'm not sure if they have it still or whether they haven't updated the website.
Shall give them a phone though, but that seems to be a better value for money then those ones?

Most definitely IF it's the right size!

If not, and Amazon works for you - I read a decent review of this is an old Cycling Active - got 80%+ score, not as good as the Triban by any stretch but worth considering

Lots of companies sell too, even in the Channel Isles http://www.falconcycles.co.uk/DealerList.php?c_id=84&Falcon_User=bc26865823a3105e8225fe087b8b3981

Just done some number crunching, I think I probably could increase my budget by a couple of hundred.
I revised my original ones and realised I missed out about two birthdays worth of money that I had been saving in a jar...

can you get the boat to the mainland and then take it back ? Not sure of ticket prices

The Allez will have a fairly aggressive riding position but well bolted together for sure - I'd go for that over the Raleigh which has an alloy not carbon fork. It will however take a rack and guards more easily which may be important if going to be using for commuting (or going to college).

Go have a looksie and a test ride

It would cost about £60 to just go to the neighbouring islands... transport costs here are beyond unreasonable...
