I think my school coach always used to. Don't know if they were technically allowed, but not sure the driver cared

This is the funniest proposal I have seen for ages. I can't see why they don't just have one item on their criteria

That reminds me of the time my school bus driver caused a minor acident on the way back from our swimming lesson in Chadderton. A Warburton's truck had right of way, but the driver decided to go anyway, and so there was a collision. Nobody was seriously hurt though. The school printed off letters that day to give to our parents about the accident. They stated that the Warburton's truck had caused the collision. I soon put my parents right about that.

They are arguing against bus lanes as they make the service more reliable and therefore more people want to use it, thus slowing it back down again.
They deem the following to be essential, emergency services that are in absolute need of complete use of a bus lane
Royal Mail vehicles (presumably the reason my mail is late)
Meals on wheels services (why stop there, how about pizza mopeds, cars delivering take-aways?)
Funeral cortèges (wouldn't have thought they would have many emergencies where quick progress is required)
Lifeboat crew responding to emergency call (I would have thought lifeboat crews would be better deployed at sea as opposed to bus lanes - but then I'm not an expert).
Their website is like a tour around the mind of a five year old on a sugar rush.

Nah, the big problem with bus lanes is apparently that they encourage people to catch buses!

Not sure if the local authorities specify what or who can use bus lanes...
They introduced a bus lane through Peterborough several years ago while some long term major roadworks were ongoing. It specified buses, taxis and cyclists (and perhaps motorbikes).
Why taxis ? The whole idea of a bus lane is to encourage public transport, with a view of course of getting cars off the road. Taxis ? they invariably only have one passenger....so its effectively a car, same as the rest of the traffic. That used to pee me off.
At the time (the bus lanes have long gone now) there were taxis, private hire, works minibuses, motorbikes, cyclists...and of course the odd car.
It was still better than using the road normally...but it could have been better still.

These are the people who see cyclists on pavements as deserving the Wrath of the Almighty, but any censure for their members driving or parking on the pavement as a n infringement of their personal freedom, cash generation, exploitation, victimisation and persecution.
