I know its a strange thing to say but would have been great to see them
you dont get a chance every day to see a sperm whale dead or alive
Back in 2001, I was driving on the island of Trondra in Shetland, when I saw that people were pulling up in their cars and then walking down to the shore. Curious that there was clearly something going on, out of 'nosiness' I did likewise. When I got down to the shore, I could see that a Sperm whale had beached itself. It was still alive and it was unclear if it was trying to get back into the sea or not. The problem is, these creatures need the natural buoyancy of the sea water to support their huge bulk; otherwise, they very quickly suffocate.
It did manage to get back into the water, but I don't know if it survived on not. Seeing one in the flesh, is a most impressive sight, they are huge creatures and even Orcas are wary to take them on.
