Whats it worth?

Just testing the water as i,m toying with the idea of buying a new bike but dont know what my existing bike is worth if I decide to sell. It began life as a standard carrera valour but there is only the original frame left now as I have changed everything. It was my first road bike and I just basicly wanted the best I could afford on my low budget so over about 18 months i,ve fitted a complete tiagra 9 speed group , carbon forks and seat post, bontrager racelite bars and stem, omega mach one wheels on tiagra hubs, bontrager affinity saddle etc and i,ve loved learning my way around a bike and it rides great but I now want to up grade. So, forgetting what i,ve spent cash wise and hours of labour, what is it worth?

Couple of hundred? But ultimately what someone who wants to buy it is prepared to pay

Why do you want to sell it when you've presumably invested time and money you'll never get back

Hi vickster, its a simple matter of pound notes i,m affraid. I know I wont get back what I put in but the bike has served many purposes as I said and as I love riding I really would love another better bike but cant do that without a bit of cash to bolster my funds. Believe me I would really like to keep her.

Thanks for replys, unless threads i,ve read on here are incorrect or i,m getting my info wrong I would have thought that a new bike with say an ultegra or 105 groupset, better, lighter wheels and certainly a lighter frame would constitute a better bike would it not?

Why don't you keep your existing bike for winter / bad weather? You're certainly not going to get too much selling it and clearly will not recover the costs already incurred by upgrading it.

What's the budget for the new bike? A a good bike with a better frame, 105/ultegra, better wheels, lighter other bits will easily be £1200-1500

How heavy is the frame you have given the carbon forks, seatpost. light bars etc. You may save a kg or two

Fixed wheel fanatic.
"Better" is so subjective.
I love spending money on my hobby as much as the next man/woman but in reality buying another bike won't make it a better experience in my opinion, just different.
It sounds like what you have is a good specced bike. You'd probably have to spend a heck of a lot to improve on what you've got.
Why not get a cheap frame and build a fixed or restore a vintage if the N+1 is biting.

My road bike is the same since I bought it because I'd have to spend a fortune to get something appreciably better, at the end of the day it's the engine (rider) that makes the biggest difference.

on youtube. learning to be a gent
300ish. I'm always watching the vanquish Pros as that is a class bike and would ride one as a training hack.

Thanks again for feedback guys. I already have another off road bike that I use occasionaly but was really the bike that got me out riding in the first place. I also have an 80s steel Raleigh Banana that i,m rebuilding but due to other financial commitments has sat waiting for paint for a few months, once thats done the rebuild will be good to go as I have all components ready to build it up, I have a full 8 speed sora groupset ,mavic cpx22 wheelset, new quill to ahead adaptor, bars, stem, new head bearings, cables etc and a gorgeous sella italia flite saddle in yellow to match. Basically a new retro bike. But back to my OP, if I decided to sell my road bike which is still essentially a carrera with some good shiney bits on, regardless of price surely if I then buy a bike with better spec and lighter weight I MUST be getting a BETTER bike. Otherwise we,d all still be riding penny farthings. I do appreciate that its me whos the engine but I also know that as a rider I could improve on a BETTER bike. Simple enough I think.
