Congrats @Bhitucyclist

Do any of your local Audax events appeal?

Thanks , i dont mind paying to attend...but fund raising to attend for event after event is difficult.
Thats a relief !
Sportives are another option but rather more commercial generally. Audax are longer distances, shortest are 100km I think. You get less support on routing, no arrows pinned to lampposts

You could just join a club and go out on their weekend group rides

I'm in the same place, need a new challenge. Thinking about tackling the off road route from the Peaks to either Cape Wrath or JOG but that's probably a longer term aim, need a new short term day or two challenge to aim at.

I was getting limbered for one of the longer sportives, but injury has postponed that for a while. I'm doing what little I can in the meantime time, long walks, keeping my weight in check, lots of leg work on the weights. I may get some rollers, but I'm dubious about how well thar will go with my injury. It is what it is for now.

So just biding my time.

There are some 50 and 60km audax events but I feel they're good rides ruined by paperwork. Each to their own, though! They're less annoying than sportives.

I support the club suggestion. There's several types out there, from relaxed and friendly to brutal.

Also look out for "Reliability Trials". The name does not really describe what they are. They usually take place in Jan/Feb and were the predecessors of so called sportives. Much more informal and probably about a fiver to take part. They are usually early season warm up events for club riders, but you just go round at whatever pace is comfortable to you.

I think CC Bexley run theirs in November, but their website is a bit out of date.

Thanks ... thats a good list ... i will go thru and check them. Are they charity events . You joining some of them ?

I try and do one or two of these Audax rides a month and as stated upthread, they aren't for charity. Selfishly they are for ME.

In the South West where I live, it can on the surface appear very, pale, male and stale if you get my drift. The Audax events, particularly from Bristol, are pretty diverse and we get above average numbers of female riders and people of colour taking part. It’s very refreshing and progressive.

One of our members runs BoBs https://www.brothersonbikes.cc/ Sadly he’s out of action for a bit after hitting a badger last Wednesday night, breaking two bones!
