Patti Smith at Glastonbury. I knew one song but was only two one person from the front. Massively intense and was easily one of the best I've ever seen. I saw a band from London in the local boozer one time and they were absolutly brilliant, despite probably only earning a couple of hundred quid and only about 30 people watching them.
I went along to what I thought was Curry Night at what I’d hitherto perceived to be a pub that I could trust and it transpired Curry Night were there to play, along with Crowded House and David Gray and though I didn’t have to stay I overheard the barman say at the Queens up the road One Direction were on, and so I remained where I was. You ask me why, I say because One Direction are particularly glib. They do two sets and then take requests, play one the drummer knows.
All in all, don’t you think it’s a good job that I checked?
Stiff Little Fingers, Oxford Apollo, 1979? 80?
The Tubes, Oxford Apollo, 1981
Rush Signals Tour, probably about 1981/82, NEC
Marillion, (Still a pub band) General Wolff, Coventry 1982
Lenny Kravitz @ Edinburgh Playhouse was best atmosphere.
Carlos Santana and band were best musicians. I liked the fact that Santana knew his voice was shot so he sang backing vocals and had a young lad singing. Paul Macca take note.
