What's with the fuel prices! And cheap whisky, apparently ...

Trying to do the math. I think £1.49 per liter is about $7.17 per gallon. We have some of the highest gas prices in the states here in California at around $4.75/gallon. Filling my tank would cost close to $100 in the UK. Ouch! I hope you all earn at least $200,000 a year.

Have you remembered to allow for different sized gallons?

One U.S. gallon = 128 fluid ounces, v. 160 fl. oz. for a UK gallon.
Current exchange rate is about one U.S. $ = 79 pence.
One litre at £1.49 = £6.77 per UK gallon (multiply litres by 4.54 for UK gallons).

So $4.75 = £3.75
To convert US gallons to UK gallons, add 25%. (32/128).

£3.75 + 25% = £4.68 per UK size gallon in USA...

By my maths your petrol costs 30% less than ours.

Not as much a difference as there was a few years back. I recall driving a rental car in California in the 90's, petrol was $1.11 per gallon (US gallon) then; but the car probably used about twice as much of the stuff as my VW Golf at home did! Was a nice drive though; San Francisco to Lake Tahoe, down through Yosemite to Fresno, Santa Barbara, then back to SF via Big Sur..

Although my last diesel returned well into the 70s MPG u der my right foot, so even at 10 pence a litre more was still less expensive to fuel.

But then I buy electrons now at about 1/8th the cost per mile.
Indeed last months leccy bill , inc charging the car was £12 …. Solar and battery certainly helps !

For the second time this year I have had to put petrol in out Ka (we mostly walk/cycle) and because the orange light was blinking at me on my way home from Aldi I pulled in and refuelled £42.32 for 25.2L of Super Unleaded @ £1.68 L. That’s it until November time unless we have to go see her relatives.
Oh! by the way 1L of Bells whisky at Sainsbury’s last week was £18 L.

A Ford Ka? Why super? Is it too old for E10?

They all say that E10 is fine. What they mean is, it plays well into their hands as part of planned obsolescence. They look good because it's "greener". The dealerships make money from things having to be replaced when they eventually go bad. Everyone gains except for the consumer.

I watch a lot of videos where people get cars running that have been sat for 30+ years. It's only usually the mechanical parts that need replacing. I doubt that would happen with a modern car today

Does it matter? Most people don't keep a car running for 30+ years, and I can't imagine that a Ford Ka is ever going to become a vintage restoration project.

Ours is fourteen years old with 15k on the clock, owned from new it’s a little gem and you can certainly feel the benefit of super unleaded better mpg too.
