My kids (10 & 13) keep referring to 'High School'. And they're both showing worrying signs of that rising intonation at the end of sentences? The one they've all caught from watching Neighbours? And Home & Away? Grrrr!

That's because, i believe, Mr Paul is a Brummie, as i am

Brummies use the word mom, usually preceeded by the word 'me', as in "I've just bin to see me mom."

Mum is seen as a soft Southern word in these parts.

I say 'gotten' though I did get paranoid about it. I actually checked on a couple of occasions that it is correct, such was my fear!

Oddly, despite my own fears, I don't really care too much about peoples language use. I actually prefer, shall we say, creative use and language bending. I do, however, get irritated by the constant use of 'like' but only when it becomes like every like second word like.

I really, REALLY hate that, it is SO annoying. when some people? end every sentence? as if it were a question? My Boss's Daughter speaks like that and how iv not slapped her yet is beyond me!!

My family are from Birmingham and all use "mom". I was born and raised in the South West and have always used "mum".

I'm with akaAndrew on the current popularity of using the word "like" at least 3 times in every sentence, it makes me cringe.
