Remotes controls are Doofers in this house.

Round here they are Oofer-Doofers. I think the "Oofer" part is a bastardisation of "other", but the linguistic panel of experts has yet to issue a final report on the matter.

There was a survey rcently of what people call their remotes, and I was geuinely surprised to find that no one else apparently calls it the 'plinker'.

+1 for doofer, although in our house it refers to any object which I cannot currently locate using my defective man-eyes. Typical usage, wheresthatfeckindoofer.

Parabolic knucktules  someone made it up when we were kids. I think it was used as an exclamation of 'whoaar'

We had 'grerps' as well....they were one legged, boss eyed cartoon characters we made up as kids. Still doodle them now , 35 years later

Arsadontist - as in "man that stinks, you need a trip to the Arsadontist!"

Edit - remotes are doofers from my side of the family and tweekydoos from my wifes.

Remotes are "buttons" to the kids (as in "Don't touch the buttons") or oojit-wotsits (accompanied with simulated pressing-of-buttons-in-mid-air) for the grown ups in our house.

Can't think of any made-up words that I use on a regular basis though, sadly.
