Itching to get back on my bike's

Out shopping with Miss Biggs and my other half yesterday and whist they both went in the changing rooms to try things on i parked myself in the other halfs wheelchair and sat there for a few minutes and then decided to go for a road test around the store as it was quiet .

Boy its hard work , thankfully ours has 24" self propelling wheels at the rear so it does mean the user doesnt have to rely on a pusher . I managed to do a lap of the shop (ladies section) but it wasnt easy but it opened my eyes an awful lot and i cant believe i hadnt done this before in all the 13+ years we have been together .

So i ask you have others used a wheelchair if not try one

Mrs D has one, though fortunately she only needs it when having a relapse.

The day I bought it I tried it out with Daughter #3, who was about 14 at the time. When it was my turn our lass was struggling to push the mighty hunk of muscle and lard that is me, lost control, and tipped me off the kerb and into the road in front of a bus. I screamed ever so slightly. .

Hell yeah, pavement parking becomes a serious issue when you're pushing a wheelchair. Had a discussion once with a driver over this and came painfully close to thumping him, he was so rude and objectionable when I politely challenged him. It was only the potential loss of job that held me back.

Pushing my mil in a wheel chair is very hard work. We have a powered wheel which can be attached. She is very heavy and has limited movement and refuses to use the belt so we have to go down slopes backwards to stop her falling out. I won't push her with my back anymore.

And she claimed this was an accident?

Around where I live I sometimes see a large man in a wheelchair, which he kind of scoots along using his feet. A couple of months ago he was ahead of me going up the hill and he scooted down a dropped kerb into the road on a junction. The camber of the road at that point made him lose his balance and the whole chair tipped over backwards. There was nothing he could do except lie there, and I just couldn't lift him on my own. Fortunately a passing motorist stopped to help and we got him right way up again. Off he went, scoot scoot, without so much as a thanks very much. (He did reek of booze, so god knows what goes on in his life really.)

Does make you wonder

My wife is in a wheelchair

Her Mother is almost blind , and loves to hold on to the back as it solves the issues of making your way through crowds or busy shopping centres

Then a few weeks ago, someone didn't actually notice the motors and batteries ,,, then harangued my wife for having an elderly lady pushing her around and asked if she was ashamed!

I couldn't resist...

"Well since Social Services stopped us using the Children to push it, I have to use Pensioners"

I won't repeat their reply, but it was fun watching them storm off

Did you manage to squeeze past, or did one of the wheels accidentally brush against his car?
