Update.
1. Apparently Panarama tv prog are researching this 'scam' for a program. It appears even the police are getting backhanders if they can get the poor person into a private facility as there is so much profit in it.
2. The good news......the insurance company have backed down and the op' is going ahead in the next couple of days. SiL and daughter are flying out tomorrow.

Good result, time to bill the insurance for the family flights/accomodation, or go public, once this has been sorted out. What a nightmare.

It's been a timely reminder to check my policy as I'm off on a cycling holiday shortly. All OK so long as I'm not racing.

Bill the f@#£%&s for the time spent and the upset and distress caused.

If there were more severe and consistent consequences for insurers trying to yank our chains they wouldnt be half so inclined to try.

Anyway, good result Dave, I hope it goes smoothly from hereon in.

I will suggest it but I think their minds are just on getting her home.
Apparently the arm is broken in several places along the full length which won't help.

Someone's reviewed the policy and realised they don't have a leg to stand on...

I suspect this is sadly all too prevalent. Someone says put a stop on this to buy time to check the insurance company's liability. Meanwhile, real people are being really worried at a time when there's worry enough.

I can also report that were one to have to return from a trip because an oncoming hurricane is about to hit the island one was planning to visit, then one's travel insurance isn't worth jack

Thanks for all the comments.
I am on the periphery, my SiL is doing the donkey work. His brother has flown out to fight from that end.
SiL has spoken to the consulate. Apparently there is what I call a legal scam where, in the event of an accident the private ambulance/hospitals try to get there before the standard ones. Once 'they' have started treatment its illegal to stop procedures without paying (my words).
Her doctor cannot disclose info without written consent so the family are in the throes of getting the patient to 'sign' consent.
My daughter and SiL are flying out Thursday and may resort to bringing the lady home via hire car/ferry/hire car.
As I say, I am on the periphery doing my little bit.
Thanks again......I will hopefully know more by Friday.

Puts you off taking a holiday!

Hope all is resolved soon.
