Inspired by tyred's magnificent achievement, not to mention that event in London this year*, I wondered when other forum members won their first Medals?

In my case, I was eleven when on School Sports Day, favourable freak weather conditions produced a shock result and I received bronze for 3rd in the Long Jump. Thus began (and ended) my list of sporting achievements. A little while later the medal was stolen from my locker but my success is eternal and cannot be stolen.

*The Chelsea Flower Show of course..

I was about 7 and my mom won the 'how many things can you fit in a matchbox' competition. Various swimming medals followed.

Probably a fun run in Arrochar when I was about 12. I wasn't first, but by God I was determined not to be last and arrived at the finish line a curious pink colour! ^_^
Actually, considering I was competing against Harriers and so on, I didn't do too badly.

Our first dog, Bruno, however got a '5 Years Service' bronze medal for his job as a Therapet!

I was eleven as well. 'Fastest Under 12' rider in a 10 mile TT. There was only me and my younger brother in that category.

I still have my certificate, gained through pain as a 10 yr old for the Hertfordshire Catholic Schools Sports Association 2nd place in the Obstacle Race.

Just enter a charity event and you might get one at the end just for participating.

Even better, volunteer and ask if you can get one at the end :becool:

Age 12 in the interform Cross-country competition...

We needed a team of 4 - we had 3 good runners, but nobody volunteered to be the 4th runner - until my arm was twisted. And I was a really terrible runner.

The agregate finishing position of the team's first 3 runners determined our points scored (so the lowest overall team score was the winner). Guess what? I came in last! - wearing football boots was a huge mistake. Anyway, overall we won the trophy and I was chosen by my team members to collect the x-country cup in assembly the following day. I remember collecting the cup from the headteacher who said to me quietly 'Please don't brandish your cup', which I also quietly ignored and waved it around like I was an FA Cup winner. Big cheers came from my classmates!

13 for coming second (poo) in a county badminton comp. the weird thing was that I became friends with a guy I met on the CB (remember them) and found out he'd won the gold! We laughed for years about that.

My first recollection of winning a trophy was when I must have been about 9 and I won the sack race at the school's sports day. Back in the day when kids could be kids, if you fell over you just got on with it and didn't rush to the nearest civil litigation solicitor.
