When does a piece of dangerous driving stop being dangerous and start being report-able?

Hey,

Just a question - when do YOU consider a piece of driving to be so bad you report the driver?

I have considered reporting drivers to the Police in the past (and have, such as 2 yobbos in a Corsa who decided to squeeze me up against a row of parked cars twice, stopped to let me pass then did it again. They got annoyed at me when I flicked the Vs at them coming the other way after picking somebody else up!). But that was really dangerous to me personally, I sometimes find it hard to find close passes dangerous but that might be because i'm so numb to them because I get so many of them.

I don't fancy becoming a semi-regular in the local nick either as they'll probably get sick of dealing with "that knob who rides with a camera on his head".

If you get their registration number the police will ask for witnesses, cctv evidence blah blah. I had a close encounter today, infact it was the nearest someone had passed me that i can remember, and then drove alongside me believe it or not at about 9 inches! After the car had passed i looked forward and saw that it was a BSM driving school car!

If you're not injured, your cycle is not damage, then without some form of corroboration a charge is highly unlikel to be authorised. So much latitude for reasonable doubt that even if it got to a court they'd probably just dismiss the matter as no case to answer. That said, depending on the circs it might be possible to deal with the offender under S.59 of the police reform act.

But if you got a camera and it shows the offence and identifies the vehicle, and provided its more than a momentary lapse of concentration, then why not? Downside is that you will be called to Court if they go Not Guilty, which is a royal PITA.

I love driving schools!

Had one with a very close overtake, so took the rag, but was "too shaken" to notice the School... So contacted all the local ones to complain, most were only too keen to point the finger, or forward the email.

Second was one who drew up along side at lights, and expounded how I should be on the cycle path, and not on the road, after a brief conversation, he was unaware of the DfT Code of Conduct, or that cycle paths were optional

Sent the video of the interview to the company who have corrected the driver, and also corrected the student. Still see him occasionally and he is as quiet as a mouse

My Dad taught me to drive. He was quite vociferous about me learning to drive proper ( he was a RoSPA observer back then) and not letting me loose on the World having been taught by the "British School of Maniacs".

Our local police park a caravan in the town square now and then so people can have an informal chat with one of the officers manning it.I asked a similar question and the answer was that even though one uncorroborated report of dangerous driving almost certainly wont go anywhere if a few seperate incidents were reported about the same driver then something would happen even if the driver was just given a talking too.So it may not be a complete waste of time.

I think Driving schools teach people how to pass the test then they start to learn to drive.

I caught the car up, after the instructor gave me a nasty hand signal. If he'd have stuck his head out the window and apologised i'd have left it but not after that! I told his pupil that she'd never pass her test with an idiot like him teaching her. He remained calm, even laid back about the incident to such an extent that i found him to be either totally clueless about his job, or on drugs!! Anyway, he wasn't that laid back when he caught me up 10 minutes later having dropped his pupil off. He got out the car effing and blinding at me threatening me even!!
I have his car reg' number so i might e mail their complaints dept'. If it'll do any good?!

I would certainly gt in touch with the company and let them know about the incident.

I've sent a message of to them but the system sounds you round in circles till you eventually get there. They're probably inundated with complaints and would rather ignore them. I don't expect them to reply asap to my complaint, we'll wait and see.

What should I do about a non replying company? I emailed a complaint to them and had nothing back for nearly a week now.

Try a letter (when you send it ask for the postage that requires a signature - then they can't deny receiving it), try their head office (if they have one) or try these chaps - http://www.dft.gov.uk/dsa

It was a driving instructor right?

I didn't think of that - good idea.

It's a transport company - if you look on my channel it's my latest video of the HGV.

Unless they actually knocked me off or intentionally tried to knock me off then normally I wouldnt bother. Plenty of rants and finger pointing but even that has reduced to a flick of the finger these days and maybe a few choice words under my breath.
