I've got to do my usual 34+ mile trip to hospital on Monday, but looking at the weather I'm wondering about taking the car, we've got a constant 29mph wind with 55mph gusts, I'm not that experienced but loath to use the car, any advie welcome

Once winds get above 20 mph and gusts over 40, I seriously start to think about driving. But my commute is ony 12 miles one way.

For 34 miles, I'd definitely drive.

Wind is the sworn enemy of all cyclists.

It may be worth getting out in the wind on your free days to get used to riding in bad conditions, and building your confidence, but I hate to admit it that I'd suggest you use the car.

That is not cycle-friendly weather, especially blustery wind on roads.

If it were me I'd rather arrive in one piece, feeling fresh and not totally knackered, hot and sweaty.

I live right on the coast, cross the road & I am on the beach - I can commute to work & not have to pedal for 90% of the ride some days (coming bcak is a bitch!!) On some windy days i'll take the longer route & stick to the cycle path, as riding into the headwind on the road I have been 'pushed over' in front of cars before.
Then there are days when the trees in the park opposite are bent double - That's a car day
!
I'd be very loath to ride 34 miles on a very windy day if I could avoid it

There is too much wind when it has been blowing for a fortnight.

Yesterday the winds were passing over newly fallen snow on the hilltops to add a refreshing chill :cold: .

Predicting gusts of 70 mph in North England and Scotland.

Think'll be leaving the bike home tomorrow.

I'm in the car tomorrow. Forecast is for winds of 38mph gusting to 60mph +. For me that would be 12 miles into a 60mph headwind on the way home, throw in 600 feet of climbing I would not get home for ages.

Wind really drains my energy at times, totally disheartening for me. I'm gonna start a 10 week training plan tomorrow for a event in August. Winds up to 27mph forecast for tomorrow now

Well it was a real pig of a commute this morning. Hopefully it'll get better for this afternoon but I doubt it. The forecast looke sh*te for the rest of the week.
One short section on the canal was fun as the wind was doing it's best to push me in.
At least I'm only doing a short distance compared to the OP & ACS.

Went out for a 'pleasure' ride yesterday with the lad on the back in his child seat, was cool for the 1/8 mile that the wind was actually behind me, the rest of the 25 miles was tough, I was struggling to move forwards. Still I guess I probably rode a virtual 40 miles fighing the wind..:becool: maybe

I'm debating what to do tomorrow, 15 mile one way and winds are promised to be 20+mph. Most of the ride is ok, traffic wise, but a small section is on a busy 'A' road which is quite an exposed bridge! Should be fun!

I rode halfway across Battersea Bridge today and got hit by a huge gust that blew me a yard off-course. Fortunately, there was nobody following me. I braked to a halt, lugged the bike over the railings, and walked it down the pavement to the end of the Bridge. It was scary.

That's what i'm worried about tomorrow!
