I was born and brought up on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Moved away at 18 to University then to work. At 22 I was working in Iran, spending time on Kharg Island among other places.

After two years the revolution in Iran dictated leaving and my employer offered me a job in the Netherlands, which I happily accepted. While there I married and after a couple of years I was moved to the United Arab Emirates.

By this time we had had enough of travel and excitement and moved back to England where I got a job that eventually took me to London. After a spell living near Amsterdam trying to make our marriage work we divorced.

I came back to England and, thoroughly fed up, I moved to Somerset for a job. That job didn't last long, but I stayed here and have no plans to leave after 37 years. I'm very lucky to have been with Ms AU for 35 years.

Crook log pool is still there but it has moved over the road. The old pool was knocked down in 2005 and is now flats.
Do you remember the Lido in Danson Park? It closed in the 70s.

Used to be our stomping ground, before we got married - The Upton, Black Prince, Old Mill, The Millers, the "Fox". crayford Town Hall

Distant memories

Likewise, we were disappointed when we were moved from Lancashire (just outside Prescot), into Merseyside.

My aunt and uncle moved from a farm in Chagford (in Devon) to a farm just outside Tavistock (also in Devon), but the 1974 local authority reorganisation meant they were now in Cornwall. My uncle's response was "my children aren't being brought up in Cornwall", so they moved to a farm just outside Kingsbridge, firmly in Devon, away from the Cornish border.

"They" annoyed a lot of people with things like that

I remember my Mum being horrified when out house was "moved" from Wallasey, CHESHIRE
into Merseyside

The Horror!!!!!

She was very pleased when out postcode changed from L46 to CH46 a few years later!!

AT the moment we live in Halton according to who we pay Counsel tax to
We are also part of the Liverpool City Region - and pay for the privilege
but our address says Cheshire
and the Police cars also have Cheshire written on them

I suspect some otehr places are the same

Yep my Mother was very miffed to find that when she downsized from a big House in Knutsford (Cheshire) to a Bungalow in Holmes Chapel the address/postcode was now Crewe.

Born in Beckenham London, but some say Kent. Early years bought up in Brixton, then on to Morden, Wimbledon, Fulham, back to Wimbledon, Berlin for a few months work, back to Morden, Orpington for 21 years, Barming in Maidstone for a year, back to Orpington and in 2024 moved to Rochester and absolutely love it. I'm not one to have emotional attachments to places but I've always loved Rochester when visiting and wish I had moved here years ago. In Rochester I'm classed by some as a DFL (Down from London).

I class myself as a Londoner over anything else (My mum was a Cockney and my dad was from Southwark),

There was lots of people who were mightily annoyed that Middlesbrough was moved to this new fangled Teesside from North Yorkshire, as were many people from Hull who found themselves in North Humberside, not East Yorkshire
