I was in Amsterdam for just one day last year and saw multiple near misses involving moped riders almost hitting pedestrians and/or cyclists and a coming together between a cyclist and a Range Rover that resulted in a punch up in the street. I'm sure this doesn't tell the whole story, but I certainly didn't come away thinking how great it must be to be a cyclist in Amsterdam.

The central area there is not the best for cycling in NL.

I go over to Weert, southeast Netherlands, to stay with my friend. I love the cycling infrastructure there, lots of segregation, but safe merging into mixed use. Seeing all the kids making school journeys in safety and the sheer number of utility cyclists, always hammers home how far the UK lags behind.
