Where in the world did you eat the best curry you've ever tasted?

2=. Specially cooked breakfast @ Bentota Beach hotel Sri Lanka in 1982 with the kitchen staff peaking out of the kitchen in awe at the westerners who had requested Sri Lankan breakfast

+1 Sri Lankan curry & tea is to die for.

Breakfast @ the triton hotel, Ahungalla. Bettered only by the generous offerings of the local fishermen whom I sent most days assisting with their drag nets.

I used to work with loads of Sri Lankans, Malaysians and Mauritians, all of whom regularly produced the most amazing veg curries.

Unfortunately I've never been to the Indian subcontinent, so my best curry memories are 1. one of those tiny cafes in Bradford in the early 90s - all formica tables and no-concessions-to-English-tastes curries for $2 a dish; and 2. the original Rasa in Stoke Newington, which is round the corner from where my sister used to live; and 3. an amazing 'jungle curry' made by two Thai sisters in Whitley Bay. Unfortunately their restaurant didn't last long because it was a little too authentic. Last I head they were working in a not-anywhere-near-as-good local Indian place...

not the best, but the first. was in a restarant at London Bridge (many many years ago) the waiter said 'do you want it hot?' i replied 'of course i want it hot'!!! ie hot NOT COLD!!! i ended up passed out in the ladies !!!!! was years before i tried curry again !!!

A truckers roadside cafe off the Grand Trunk road (Pakistan) at 4am. This was in the late 90s.

There was nothing special about the curry - chick peas, but it was at the end of a long day's (and night) travel and we were starving. It was the most enjoyable curry I've ever had.

Having a South Asian background and coming from Bradford I've eaten better curries, but that meal at the roadside was special.

There were two. the Plaza was the original but the brothers fell out and one opened the Palace just off the Curry Mile.

Any little cafe in Bradford back in the late 80's. My husband used to teach many of the restauranteur's children - sometimes they would not let us pay.
Fast forward to today, Mumtaz in Bradford is really good. A lot posher than it used to be though!

Loads of posts to read, which I will in a mo, but the best curry I had was served to me outside a place in the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia.

A whole range of dishes, all served in individual little portions on a banana tree leaf, all absolutely delicious, all for 6 Ringit (just over a quid at the time, early 2000).

Jaipur resturant in Dublin, unlike most place each dish tastes very different and the food is very good quality.

Had a couple of cracking curries when I was working in Singapore last year. As for in Scotland the Nazma in Aberdeen and the Bombay Cottage in Hamilton take a lot of beating

A Sikh friend took me to a pub in Coventry that did the most amazing kebabs and then to a Sikh working men's club where they just had whatever curry they were cooking that day. Don't know what it was but it was delicious.

Also a Gentleman's Curry Club somewhere in North London where I had the rather unusual pelican curry. It was ok but the bill was massive.
