Where in the world did you eat the best curry you've ever tasted?

All time favourite curry if from my predominantly Sikh hockey club, the wives and mothers take turns providing the match teas. Grandma Hayer is always the one to look of for, absolutely divine and something new to look out for each time.

My favourite in terms of the whole experience is when I go to Mumbai for work, one of my team always invites me back to her house to eat with the family it is really great fun and because she is married to someone from the south (Tamil Nadu), there is a tremendous variety of different styles on offer.

I also love street food in a lot of India and touch wood, have yet to have a bad experience.

1) A packed lunch curry whilst trekking in Sri Lanka. It wasn't so much the flavour, but more the experience. Eating it out of newspaper by hand, surrounded by rolling hills of Tea plantations.

2) Boxing day at my Gran's circa 1992. Turkey curry with rice and poppadums, and pretty much a whole jar of mango chutney to myself. I'm not usually a fan of "English" curries, but this one was grand.

3) Flavour wise it's got to have been from the Nepalese Restaurant in Plymouth. Loads more fresh herbs and spices than your main-stream Indian takeaway.

Four years ago in Hammersmith Hospital. There was an Indian guy in the same ward and his wife would bring him supper everyday. He asked me to share one of his meals. It was absolutely delicious.

Toss up between a crab curry "which crab would sir like" in Majroda in Goa or the one I had in a hotel in Jodhpur after I sent the original back and said "please cook it as if I was Indian not English"

after a cycle tour of the Yorkshire Dales..... caught a train to Retford, North Notts. There was an Indian restaurant at Bridgegate (sadly is now no longer there) that was the best I've ever had. Still dream of it to this day at times.....

I'm sure the level of hunger and context of the day (as well as obviously the restaurant, quality of food and ambiance) helps though.

I also was in the Merchant Navy and sailed with an Indian crew. I aquired the taste then, but at home I can make it exactly how I like it. I think my favourite is massaman, cooked from scratch - having it tomorrow in fact!

hmm. Went to a lovely Goan restaurant in Ilford which was amazing. LaHore kebab house on Commercial Road is excellent.

Sadly the curries we had in Goa were very westernised and not great.

Galle, Sri Lanka. Went there to watch the cricket a few years ago and for about £3 you could get a dish with chicken or fish curry and about 5 other assorted dishes.
Some of those side dishes were a bit odd but most of it was amazing.

Rock up anywhere in Sri Lanka and order "Rice & Curry" and a veritable feast appears!

Is lamb tagine a curry? if so then at a mates house in Maidstone about two years ago...probably ...no definitely one of the finest meals I've ever enjoyed...company was awesome too.

I'm not a wine expert but it was served with a red that tasted just like the meal and was a perfect match...glorious.
