If we are commenting on the summer stand-ins, on Friday Zoe Ball covered for Ken Bruce - I am sure that woman has gills, she never pauses for breath. I heard her awful voice and immediately switched to 5 live.

ZB does my head in  - straight over to XFM for me.

I like Zoe Ball - thinks she does a good job of it. Also like Graham Norton when he stood in for Chris Evans.

Don't quite know what it is about her on Radio 2 I don't like - I never liked her on Radio 1 either? Never quite felt she'd earned her spurs in the music business I suppose - what with her dad being Johnny Ball(whom I loved as a kid) and all that!
Then with all the ladette caper I can't help thinking she's on a par with Peaches Geldorf - talentless with umpteen opportunities passed their way because of who their dad's were/are.

Where's the Janice Long's / Annie Nightingales of our era - when I first heard Edith Bowman I thought she was good but I'm not to sure now. Jo Whiley was one of my fave female DJ's but she's conformed over the last few years - Lauren Lavern is still pretty cool and with her finger on the pulse. :becool:

Radio 2 seems to have got into a habit of taking on people from TV that do not transfer to radio at all well.
Tarbuck is just annoying, as is Alan Carr and that Lilly Savage bloke.

The exception is Grahame Norton who was really good on the Breakfast show. I did not expect his type of humour to work on early morning R2 but he was brill.

Evans was always good on TV but is just annoying on radio. It is like Groundhog Day with him on. The show is exactly the same day in day out. He asks the kids the same questions, he asks the idiot with the megaphone the same questions. He plays the same jingles at exactly the same time and spends the remainig time putting down his side kick lacky presenters.

Ball was a change from Ken Dot Bruce who is a bit tired now.
Tarrant is from the 1980s commercial radio era and is not suited to the comfy chair of Radio 2.

So who would we like to see taking the hot seat on a Radio 2 show.
Jo Brand was good when she stood in for Wossy (with someone else)
Julian Cleary may just be right - he is very bright and funny.
James May has too much on elsewhere.

I will try to think of some more. Any suggestions?

+1 regards Evans and surprisingly Norton!

I really liked Evans on drive time - but I'm just waiting for him to go off the rails with his breakfast show again, I feel he's too much in the morning!

Don't mind him - but I don't listen to his show that much to be honest!

Are they still trotting that Old Woman crap out??? I'll send a fiver aswell.

Best DJ's R2 had are Alex Lester, Janice Long, Richard Allinson and Johnny Walker. Wogan was good for a laugh aswell, and he played some good stuff.

+1 - although I liked her as an actress and on several TV shows as a presenter.

+1 - I listen to the show on my evening cycle - or on the i-player if I'm back-shift.

+1 - for Radcliffe's knowledge, he's one of the few DJ's left that comes anywhere close to the legendary John Peel(in my opinion).

While we're on the Mark Radcliffe subject - what happened with him and Lard?

Radio 2 needs to waken up it's ideas it's starting to stagnate a bit.

What about Nick Abbot in the evenings - I loved his unedited Virgin 1215 show's in the early 90's. :becool:

Nick Abbot is now doing a fine job on LBC

Cheers for the link - I'd just googled his name after I posted and found the Nick Abbot website with links to his shows(and vintage NA by the look of it).

Barnet,
I personally cannot stand Steve Wright in the afternoon. It is time he got moved on to retirement somewhere. He is a brown nosed sycophant who fawns over the d list celebs who have something to advertise. I liked Chris Evans on the drivetime slot, but i'm not that keen on his breakfast show. Radcliffe and Maconie are excellent in the evenings and I always listen to Paul Jones on a monday with his blues program.

The only one of the daytime jocks on R2 I have time for now is Ken Bruce. He is very knowledgeable on his music and his dry humour appeals to me. The others, particularly the ginger whinger just want to project their own "personalities".

I would like to see Tom Ravenscroft given a slot, good radio manner and an interesting broadcaster. At least Tarrant has been playing some decent music over the past fortnight even if he does rabbit on too much. Daytime Radio 2 now seems to be aiming for the type of audience who will be watching Big brother and I'm a Celebrety in the evening.

Ken Bruce is excellent, along with Alex Lester, Radcliffe and Maconie and Janice Long. I liked Terry when he was on in the morning, not so sure about his new slot.

Steve Wright was great 20 years ago. Not now, too much fawning.

Chris Evans. Well, Radio 2 has lost a listner in me for the breakfast show now. He's too much in the morning, although he was ok-ish on the drivetime.

Zoe Ball. She just gets on my wick I'm afraid, and on the rare occasion I have listened to that show, I make a bit of a mental bet with myself to see how long she can go without name checking or referring to her husband or her offspring. I reward myself with a biscuit if its more than 5 minutes.

So I don't eat many biscuits...
