I'm after a tub of grease for assembling bits and bobs. I know I can get the pricey Finish Line stuff from the bike shop but I'm guessing it would be cheaper to get some from a hardware store or somewhere. Anyone know where? Homebase doesn't sell it. The place in Marchmont maybe?

Cheers,
Matthew

If it's for a bike you're better getting the right stuff. It's much more water-resistant and, although it will cost you a bit more, you don't use that much so it'll last you for ages. Over all I think it's well worth it.

Get the Finish Line stuff - £5 for a tube that will last 6 months to a year (so long as you are not rebuilding hubs & headsets every day) - anything else is false economy.

I rebuilt the (loose bearing) BB on my mum's bike with some cheap Castrol automotive stuff a while ago. Had a look recently - turned into solid white gunk, almost like candle wax but harder & very stiff to turn.

Ok, I got some bike stuff (not actually Finish Line, but the stuff my LBS uses). Cheers all.

Have you tried the chip ship opposite the Haymarket? They seem to specialise in grease.

That is my local chip shop and yes, I agree. I wish there was a better chip shop within walking distance.

Finish Line stuff...go get it...... it's got good waterproofness (if that's a word) ....I use it and it fits my 'injector'.......

It's a very good lube for areas that get battered - hubs, headsets (not BB's..heh..heh..fit and forget)

Damn you Matthew why did you have to go and mention Sushiya. It's 3 in the morning and now I'm craving sushi/sashimi.

Not been there for a while, I'm going to have to pop in for dinner tomorrow now that you've mentioned it.
