I'm planning my first cycle tour in the UK and would welcome some help where to find decent value cycle friendly lodgings. Anybody have any sugestions for websites etc - alternatively looking specifically at Wigan area, Telford, Worcester, Oxford and Harrow. Many thanks for any suggestions.

You could try the location you want at HikerBiker

I would have thought any B&B that had friendly owners would suffice. People who are friendly and accommodating would be able to offer you good hospitality whether you were a cyclist or not.

I wouldn't get obsessive about cycle friendly B&B as you might well be excluding a heck of a lot of decent B&B establishments and limiting your horizons. Tourist information centers would be a good place to start though to be honest I wouldn't expend the energy on searching.

I have only used two B&B establishments while cycle touring, one near Hereford and one in Inverness. Both of them were occasions when I couldn't find/use a camp site. Both of them were picked at random. Both of them were great value for money and friendly.

For the UK and Ireland, Vrienden op de Fiets is not the best answer as only 15 families present affordable accomodation through this scheme. But once you cross the Channel or the North Sea, over 4000 families will host you the same hospitable way in the Netherlands and Belgium.
