Go on admit it, did you stay under the duvet this morning?

A bit of wind and light dizzell this morning and it seemed that about 50% of the fair weather cyclists failed to get out of bed.

I just can't do that, my mind set has to be to aim to commute in all weather. If I start picking and choosing which days to cycle in I would be a slipperly slope and would soon find different excuses every day and would never cycle in.

Is anyone else like this?

I was in London last weekend, and I have to say i admire you guys and girls who commute in that traffic. Throw in some bad weather and im not sure I would do it everyday (unless i had no choice).

Maybe its not as bad as it looked, but im just not a big city person.

I admit, I stayed under the duvet but that's only because I'm rubbish waking up before noon.

I set my mind to commuting by bike all year round some years back (while in Finland mind you where cycling get more interesting in winter) so while I do take a look at the weather in the morning the question for me is just "what shall I wear?"

I intend to cycle all the way in whatever the weather, but I almost always faff about so much that I miss my 'slot' to set off, and have to stick the bike on the train to get to work on time. No hassle, but I begrudge paying the money. I always cycle home though. A lad who grew up in the Pennines has no fear of "weather". I once cycled to school when the radio was asking for volunteers to help the hill farmers dig their sheep out of the snow.

Some days I just can't be bothered and take the Tube. I *do* ride the beater bike to the Tube station though.

I should be out later, working at home at the mo. Of course it's pure coincidence that it's forecast to be 17 degrees and sunny this afternoon!!!!!

Thinking about it, that explains the increase in cars and the idiots driving them this morning - although thumbs up to the lorry driver who stayed well back from me for about half a mile to hold the traffic back while I was crawling against the wind when he could easliy have overtaken.

If they'd put showers in at the office I'd go all-weather in a heartbeat. But at the moment we have no facilities so I can't come in soaked and stinking. If the chance of rain is less than 40% (according the the Weather Channel app on my phone!) I'll risk it though - today was 60% so I got the train.

If it's cleared up a bit later in the afternoon I might take a Boris for a spin to get my "fix".

I left 5 minutes later than I usually do, only because I strained my eyes trying to work out if it was actually raining. Truth be told, I'd have been tempted to take the tube in if it was chucking it down.

Turns out it wasn't, but was still wet. Some unfortunate chap on a MTB went down on the CS3 - must have slipped on the white paint on the off-road section after Cable St (heading east).
Stopped to see if he was ok - I think it was more a surprise than anything. Thankfully the bike was ok :-)

Even with my 38mm tyres, I'm ever so cautious in the rain...mainly to do with the number of falls I've taken in the past. And despite chalking those down to inexperience (skill wise), I'm still to overcome the mental block.

I cycle every day come rain wind or shine, even all thru that bad winter. All the fair weather cyclist at work look at me like I'm a nut case. But to be honest I like it when people say "your crazy for cycling in this. I jumped I'm my nice warm car, have fun getting wet on the way home". It just shows how weak some people are, scared of a little rain or wind. I pitty them!
