Now I'm at a point where I actually had a dream someone stole my bike and I was traumatised!
OH MY GOD- how horrible!!;)

I must admit though, that even if the decision was mine I don't think I would have stuck it out without the support of Mr Weenie. He was sceptical at first but when he saw how happy it made me he really got on board even though he doesn't cycle himself.

Now the thing to do is to get him on a bike (and on a FNRttC when it's warmer)

I like how you name your bikes with pride too!

Yeah come on Hackers, it'd be so awesome to meet you IRL!

Now come on Mikey...story please, you can't post here without a story to tell ;)

I echo the sentiments though - we'll just shout at Ian re pacing and if we lose him we lose him, no problem

That seems a bit unfair, so you have to carry his weight too? Get a tandem, make him do some of the work...;)

It's amazing, isn't it, that people drive to a gym or spinning session, for which they pay...

Hmm, I think you're talking yourself out of it!
The pace can be varied I'm sure - I know Mista P and Ianrauk sometimes need to get back for a certain time but there's always options to deviate off the main course and ride at a relaxed pace. I could do with taking it easy whilst I'm on and off with the colds.

It is up to you of course but would be nice to see you out on one.

Re your story...swapping a camera for the bike!! Madness- get both! Funny thing is I started cycling when I was very small, was never allowed on 'dangerous' roads and because of this it didn't continue into adulthood. It's that perceived safety thing again isn't it?

I remember riding at breakneck speeds on the pavement when I was about nine on my mates bike in Leyton and how I never slaughtered anyone I will never know.Perhaps I wasn't really going as fast as I thought I was.Christ I was fit then.I think I pestered them for so long about the bike they eventually got me one for my birthday I think it was.It was a Dawes.:girl:
Have two Dawes bikes at the moment.

On health issues I had a really bad time last year I really thought I was coming to an end with the commuting lark.I was really struggling.
I still don't know what happened last year and it is a bit worrying.
As I say things got so bad I very rarely booze now.

I will be out on a ride in the future and I will rig the spare audax up for the ride and drop a bit of weight on it.I will testrun it as im sure there is some difference.

He's into rugby rather than bikes these days and I like it that way, means more bike time for me! :girl:

And of course I name them! Bikes are people too.

Sorry to hear that last year was a struggle- I assume you had everything checked out at the GP? Take it easy, sometimes there's just a blip and hopefully that's all it is.

I will hold you to that and see you on a ride soon!

I'm the opposite - was quite sedate on the bike- it was a little orange one- don't know what the brand was- am worse now with speeds but just not on the pavements usually!

:girl: I haven't with the two Audax bikes but I have in the past.

Just known as Audax 2006 and Audax 2007.

No I didn't go to the doc because I didn't know how long it would go on for.
I became quite ill and very run down in Dec 2008 after a long stint at work and thats when I decided to cut the drinking...although i got bitten/stung by something in Hong Kong a few months earlier and my arm swelled up.I was never right for a long time after.I wondered if that was behind it as well.

I think the earliest time for a ride would be April now due to work commitments and holiday.

In 1993 I flew up Ditchling on a basic (crap) bike and some woman who was sitting on a deckchair watching the 1993 London - Brighton bike ride had a go at me for going to fast...then again I didn't have a clue about hill climbing then.I'd never be able to do it now.

Hackers, maybe you had some sort of long term virus? If you did decide to come on the ride, where would you meet up, HPC, Camberwell Green? I would most certainly try my best to ride with you, assuming I can keep up. Plus I promise to apply peer pressure to slow down to any of the speedy ones trying to leave us behind.

Story TT, you mean how I started cycling? For me there never was any question with two Dutch parents. Cycling was expected behaviour, and with not very much money I was expected to ride myself to all the places I needed to be. I did get car lifts from the parents, but not very often and I think that was a good thing. Although we lived in Zimbabwe, there was a big cycling culture at school, with large expanses of bike stands rammed full every day.

Thank's just saw this.As I said I could set the other bike up and drop the junk on it.That would raise my capability.

Remember they are both set up to be reliable for my commutes and not to race peoples down the Mile End Road.(Plus a horn and and battery)

Im thinking of getting a fixie for the very early morning commutes.

Hackers, that could be associated with the bite or simply if things were hectic and stressful at work that can be enough to zap the energy. If things flare up again could be useful getting a check up.

If you can do ditchling you'll be absolutely fine on the flat ride on Sunday.

BM-the cycle provision sounds fantastically idyllic - My school didn't have bike racks. In fact I think they removed the burnt out remnants of the bike shed one year as it was a little spot for trouble at the school.

I could do Ditchling in 1993 but it's not 1993 now.

Still all those miles in your legs mean something you know! With the daily commuting I'm sure you'll be fine

I realised recently I only enjoy my commuting when im not struggling.

When it gets like that I wonder if I have got the wind on my side.:girl:
