many years ago when my dad was on the long distance work he went to a pub in herefordshire /gloucestershire and had a pint of scrumpy, some of if spilled out of the china tankard he was using and it lifted the varnish ( what little remained) off the bar. he said it was one of the nicest pints he had ever had !!

I'd not describe Elmley castle scrumpy as that in any way, but it had all of the alcohol fermented out of it and so was very strong.

Would go well as a shandy, but I couldn't drink a lot of it 'neat'. They sold it in 2 litre plastic milk bottles (washed out obviously)

Blackberry wine is easy to make (especially if you have all the gear), and they are easy to find.

Blackberry wine is the nicest wine I've ever made.

Homebrew is the way to go. Last week I bottled 30 bottles of shiraz (£37 for kit). Next week I'll be bottling 30 bottles of pinot grigio (£23 for kit & sugar). No duty, very little retaillers margin and just 30 corks needed as I re-use bottles and get other to save them for me.
I'm going to start investigating countryside wines when we get some fruit to gather .

I've not tried kit wines for years, do they still cause blinding headaches?
