I've bought a Carlton, the last one I owned was in 1962, chromed and at 23 inch just a little too big, but it was a Carlton! I will try to bring this one back to its original state, ( previous owner has done a half decent job years ago, but he has passed on).
My current guess is that its mid 60's to early 70's, but I can only guess at the model. Any of you experts have an idea?
The dropout number is N622 ( mid 60's ?)
The original colour was headstock metallic brown, and the frame metallic pale blue.
The forks are full chrome, but lugs and stays are not chromed. Fork crowns look as though the forks are original and not replacements.
Lugs are Nervex
Wheels are Rigida Chromolux the diamond has <70> , 1970?
Brakes are Vainqueur (victor) 999
Seat pinch bolt has a Blue C nut ( early type?)
The gear sets are Raleigh.
It seems to have been cared for.

It has a early-mid 60's International look about it, very nice

I'll wait for Spokesmann, our Carlton aficionado

Hi, your bike looks very nice it has got some quite fancy lugs. I was of a similar opinion as midlife, it has a similar stamped rear dropout as my 73 competition model and a similar stem but the Weinmanns haven't got the Raleigh logo so I would guess pre 70s but I am not an expert.

Mid ,70's would have had the standard ,W for Worksop number followed by month letter then year plus the numbers.

1968-73 were generally just numbers and before that they had the letter before. I wish I had printed out the CarltonMe website before it closed but 1963 rings a bell.

Ah, Thanks for that, I wondered why some of the pics are missing.

Never heard of Wayback Machine, learn something new every day as they say

Cheers

Thanks for messages, I had already stumbled across the last site and whilst most of the images aren't shown they do show on Flickr. My main interest is trying to identify the model as much as the date of manufacture. I would like to put the appropriate decals back onto the frame.
Some pointers point to mid 60's others 10 years later. ( could there have been a very early upgrade by the owner?)
Does the presence of just single cable lugs on the top tube have significance? Many models have a pair in close proximity.

Humm..... Midlife says it has an International look about it.
I noticed this international with the unusual Carlton decal and realised that it was almost the same as the hand painted one on my Carlton.
I haven't seen this decoration before and it makes me wonder if the artist restorer, was copying the original Carlton markings.
