I read a magazine article the other day and got to thinking which were the worst eras for fashion. If you think about the 20th C mostly you have to think of women's fashion because men spent most of the time in variations on suits (but see below). It seems to me that for women the 50s were the absolute worst: clothes and haircuts were terrible with the 40s running them a very close second.
Both men and women completely lost the plot in the 70s (the decade that style forgot) and modern shell-suited hordes are pretty abominable but I don't suppose they count as general fashion.
The only other stomach turning time for me is the Elizabethan era: all those bloody tights and ruffs.
What do you reckon?
