I've had a pair of wheels from baldwins cycles before, they were built up ok, and have survived more than a year of abuse from me, although I've buckled the rear rim now, so it needs replacing.
So would you say that those on the tiagra hubs are a fair wheel for the price, at the price there is a wheel jig I might be able to afford and look in to building my own in time.

I only ever seem to get a season or 7,000 miles which ever is first.

Tiagra hubs are going to be pretty decent, and they're easily serviceable (user dependant I know). I know nothing about the rims though, at that price, they're going to be a bit heavier than more expensive ones, but 32h should survive most abuse, especially at your weight.

I'd reckon that getting a jig as well and keep them trued they should last much longer than a season. Plus if you get a jig you can probably practice building wheels and then lace new rims onto your older hubs instead of buying new wheels later, might be cheaper in the long run.

This what I am thinking its though its not an expensive one well there are a few up to about £50, the season has been on RS10 and 11;s both about 7,000 miles in a year and both had fractured rear rims, the R501's about 3,500 (well the rear) thats done since a year March but just popped a poke another reason for the jig.

Possible this one.

I nearly pulled the trigger but will probably ride the 501's into the deck...apparently unused. Mavic Open sport have a decent reputation.
I have been reading they are quite strong so much that its possible to ride with lose spokes, they look a bit tatty for new but nearly half price of the same I have seen 70 rear 65 front.

Just looking at the spokes can't make out if its reflection colour or rust.

My personal favourite rims/wheels are Mavic. 4 of my 5 bikes are Mavic, and my fixie used to be mavic, but have been buying Miche as the wheel deals were cheap. You could go with a slightly wider Mavic touring rim rather than the Open Pro.

Looks like reflection off the carpet...the hubs look new..grease on the spline

I guess if the new 'other' description isn't correct you would be entitled to a refund ?

@fossyant I can hardly fit 25c tyres so not much point at this stage, though having just done a diy repair on the rear mudguard I may have more clearance, the problem wasn't when it was dry but wet and it used to pick up road dirt and rub, also cost at the moment those @doog pointed out would be a good starting point from what I understand.

@doog I know an unfortunate colour for the background colour and highly reflective surfaces like spokes. Just a note it could be argued whilst they are new if rust is present its there because of storage and lack of use but could be classed as new other. If they haven't gone later i think I will go for them at least its a good starting point some more durable wheels than I currently have.

Any recommendation's on a cheap wheel jig.

Nigel just seen this, I can recommend Adrians suggestion in the above post, I use this to build wheels with.

I built some with Ultegra hubs and Exal XR1 rims Sapim double butted spokes, 36 spokes 3 cross, I got the hubs free from Andrew_Culture who used to post on here but not seen any post from him for a while, they are fitted with some 23mm Planet X kevlar tyres, you can have them for what it cost me to build them £50 let me know if your interested and I'll bring them up for you to look at, also I know you like to experiment with gear ratios, I have a few cassette sprockets you can have.

They are fitted with a 10 speed Shimano freewheel.
