At this stage, I don't really need a full-blown rack and trunk bag solution, but I do want more carrying capacity than my current wedgie bag affords without breaking the bank.

I like the idea of either the Topeak Dynapack or having it been pointed out in another thread, the Altura Arran. Both would appear to offer enough storage for my tools, spare tube, overshoes, waterproof jacket and snacks, and both are waterproof (a good thing if you've read my other posts today!).

My question is will either actually fit? My Ridgeback Flight has a couple of inches of tube sticking out above the top tube, with a further 2.5" or so before the seat post takes a bend (see attached pic)... I'm guessing the simpler looking fixing for the Altura might be a safer bet?

If I decided just to go for an MTX beamrack instead, which type would fit properly – V-type or E-type? (frame size is 56cm).

Or one of the KlickFix Contour bags ?
I have the Contour "mudguard" model, which is just 4.5 litres - takes up very little space on the seat post.
There are some bigger models too.

By way of a correction to my original post, it turns out (having enquired with Zyro Customer Services) that the Altura Arran Expanding Seat-Post Pack isn't actually waterproof.

I use one of these:

takes plenty of gear and pretty reasonable at 30 quid I think as it's bombproof, and hasn't come close to any water getting into it. Is 2.7litres, but takes tools, 2 tubes, waterproof, glasses in case and spare food with no bother.

Agree with Ceepeebee, I've an Ortlieb saddle bag, and it's magic.
I can squeeze in all I need for a short ride, it's completely waterproof, a doddle to fit, and a doddle to take off too.
And, if you are walking about at your destination, the bag can be carried by the handle.

On my 56 cm Scott I have the V type RX beamrack. The MTX beam, rack is more for MTBs. The V type lowers the bar a bit. On my bike theres loads of room still between wheel and rack.

The clamp that goes on the seat post is 1.5 inches high so if you have 2 inches of straight seat post showing it will fit easilly.

The RX has a 15 lb weight limit comes with detatcheable side rails if you use a bag with side panniers.

The bag on m ine is a camera bag held on with cable ties. The Topeak bag slides onto the rails for easy removal.

I've had mine in torrential rain without leaking, but maybe covering it with THIS also helped

Keep an eye out for Aldi camping items going on sale, they do a range of waterproof sprays that are brilliant at only£3 a can, I've used them on all my waterproof clothing / cycling items with great effect

Thanks Norman - although I've not quite decided yet, I do like the size of the Arran bag (and the side pockets which the Dynapack doesn't have), so it's good to know a spot of waterproofing spray might be all that's needed
