White bar tape, what's that all about? I know it looks good, but only for five minutes before you get grease smeared on it. I've even seen it on cyclo-cross bikes confused0038.gif

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Cleans up well with WD40 and a clean rag.

it stays perfectly clean if you have the perfect cycling accessory. A husband who carries the tools, does all the dirty work on the bike, and cleans it for you.

I must admit I prefer black - for the reasons stated. But there is something to be said for slightly grubby off-colour tape: it sends out a sort of message, doesn't it? Shows your bike is well-used and gets lots of mileage.

I remember my son explaining to me (he's a Karate black belt) that the shabbier and more threadbare your black belt is, the more kudos attached to it. It shows you've been a Dan for a long time.

I had white on my bike for a couple of seasons, but the continual cleaning did get a little tedious. I think it looks lovely, smart and chic, but I am afraid that of late I have moved back to black. Perhaps next summer, I will give white another go on my best bike. Reminds me, I must replace the tape on my commuter as it has ripped slightly.

Be careful though if you use WD40 to clean the tape, as I have just found out it also removes the adhesive from the tape as well if you use too much, making the tape revolve around the bars when you grip it.
