Forgot to mention this one:

1993 - A mate of mine wangled backstage passes to the Gay Pride event in London. While we were sipping free wine and gorging on cucumber & salmon sarnies, I popped out to the portaloo. While stood in line, I heard 'Bloody hell, I'm freezing!" from behind in a scouse accent (it was an unusually cold day in June). It was none other than Lily Savage, full wig etc, having just come off stage. We chit-chatted about how rubbish the weather was for June and he was nice enough to pose for a picture. I have to add that he stayed 'in character', so I can't tell how the 'real' Paul O'Grady is. Still, funny girl our Lil!^_^
Susie spent nine weeks on tour with Mr. O'Grady. Ghastly, ghastly man......

Peter Mandelson was utterly self-controlled, very statesmanlike and completely untrustworthy, but he had the most beautifully kept hair of anyone I have ever met, man or woman. ;)

FM, that's a perfect assessment! Anybody who spends too much time with "Male Grooming Products" is a complete bounder.

Thank you.

Mickey Rooney - grumpy & miserable b*st*rd. (Very disappointing)

Jackie Kennedy/Onassis - surreal beauty. Everything about her, shouted of immense wealth.

Jo Grimond - very nice, gentle personality

Ranulph Fiennes - brags a bit, but a fit guy

Nicholas & Adrian Crane - really nice fellas; they came into our pub, back in the 80s and had a meal and a few drinks. We talked about running, mostly. Got their autographs in our Visitors Book.

Aly Bain/Phil Cunningham/Dick Gaughan/Martin Carthy/Richard Thompson/Dave Swarbrick = all great musicians and sound fellas.

Kathryn Tickell - great musician; rather remote - cold personality

Andri Snaer Magnason - (Icelandic environmentalist & writer) -brilliant bloke !

Katrin Fridriks - Icelandic Artist (based in Paris) - beautiful girl and her art's pretty good too !

Jeremy Hardy did a show in our pub in the mid 80s, went down very well.

Steve Earle - I didn't recognise him at first, 'cos he'd lost so much weight. Just seemed a regular kind of guy, sat & drank with him for a couple of hours . . . . . . . took his turn to buy a round

Bobby Charlton - cold personality; Jack Charlton - absolute gent

Esther Rantzen & Desmond Wilcox - down to earth and good fun

Chay Blyth - smashing fella, very interesting

Nick Estcourt - very intense, driven individual

Carole Ashby - (Bond girl) met her a couple of times in the 80s . . . if only I'd been a bit older

Cheryl Baker - arrogant & devoid of talent

Steve Cram/David Moorcroft/David Hemery - really nice fellas

Paula Radcliffe - I was surprised . . . she was lovely, down to earth and very nice

Paul Tergat - humble guy

Daniel Komen - intense & focused

Lembit Opik: The only one i've actually had a proper conversation with.

I've also had a conversation with Lembit; I was with my missus who is, it must be said, a very striking looking girl. I asked Lembit questions, but he just gawped at my missus and gave her, the replies. He is such a lecherous individual - very easily 'distracted' by a pretty face.

I have mentioned meeting someone else on here before, and I can't remember for the life of me who it was now.

That said, I've met various people at book signings including Wil Self, who was nice enough and Doug Allen, the BBC underwater Polar Cameraman, who was very down to earth and was interested to hear that I had studied the same course at the same college as he had, and we had a chat about a certain well known lecturer who was apparently last seen heading to Russia in a campervan!

Oh yes, I know who it was, Pete Waterman. He attends quite a lot of railway events and is a friendly down to earth guy.
Just a shame he's been responsible for various musical abominations over the years though.....

Why was you surprised? [Paula Radcliffe] has always seemed happy, very personable & coming over well in interviews.
She does, but a lot of them don't - and it's not only because they get asked inane questions immediately after they have won/lost miserably. To get to the top in most sports requires very unusual levels of concentration and the three or four international athletes that I know are utterly self-centred and tbh not the sort you would want to spend much time with.

Chris Rea.

While working in a Burger bar, part of a chain they owned in Teesside, he now says his parents were restaurateurs!

He was a teenager and full of 'My Dad owns this business.... yada, yada, yada...

One of the least likeable of the Rea dynasty.

I heard Chris Rea's doing a song with Dire Straits.

Ken Livingstone accused me of chucking bricks at him.

Arthur Smith said "That's why I like it!" when I told him South London smells of wee.

Terry Wogan gave me a chicken satay.

Paul Merton told me to shut up.
