Roast now in the oven, and it's the cook's recovery time, it's very dehydrating doing all that prep:whistle:

Proper sunday dinner every week, although occasionally I can't get excited about it, it just seems a bit predictable sometimes. Conversely, when we're on holiday abroad, the wife and I always discuss the (non existent) chances of a sunday dinner in the hotel.

If you can find a good carvery, we used to have the Seasions House in Peterborough which was the best I ever tasted but now sadly its closed, then occasionally its nice not to have to wash up etc...but there are precious few good ones.

A proper sunday dinner every week?

I'd love that but living on my tod... it's too much effort.

Saying that, as if by coincidence, I am having something close today. Cumberland sausage is currently being slowly cooked in a casserole dish along with onion and mushroom in a mustard & horseradish gravy... roast potatoes courtesy of Aunt Bessie with steamed broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, peas and carrots

Don't know about the traditional side of things, but we cook everything from scratch here for all meals here. Just very occasionally we will bale to chip butties as a treat or something like chips, egg (ducks) and sausage (veggie) which was last nights evening meal, but that is not very frequent either and we always eat at the table, together if we are at home.

This evening's meal was actually cooked by my husband for a change, (mostly because I was in bed asleep, but...)

Love a roast dinner, can't really buy one as good as can be made at home but today it's a porky feast...belly pork with puy lentils, roast parsnips to go in with the lentils and some cubes of lovely smoked pancetta too. Just back from the shops with some cider for cooking liquid and a cheeky glass to accompany...smelt amazing coming back into the house.

No, never a big fan of 'traditional' Sunday roasts - I always found them unexciting, and having the same stuff every Sunday strikes me as too much of a ritual, and from experience over the years I associate them with overeating and losing half of the day. I appreciate that a lot of people on here say they have them in the evening - that at least seems a bit better.
We always take pleasure in what we cook at weekends, but like to vary it, see what good stuff is on the market/in the shops etc. But each to their own, if you like roast meat every Sunday then good on you.
