Last year I had 3 incidents, all minor, but all could have resulted in injury if I had not been on the ball.

But as someone who works for himself I do think I should try to protect myself in everyday possible, and as I can buy the camera though my business (removing vat) Im thinking why not

Thinking about the Contour roam.

I'd like one - not to join the YouTubers (whom I have nothing against at all, I'm subscribed to all of you!) but to do something to protect the investments I'm making on my bikes.

However, I'm not keen on a helmet cam, and wouldn't want a camera I couldn't transfer between bikes, and have no room at all on my cyclocross handlebars, so I'm sort of stuck for ideas at the moment. I've looked at sunglasses cams, but don't really like the bulky look of them.

I will never use a helmet cam as i have no need for one, if you commute in a highly populated area then i would guess you will have a much higher incident rate that if you are cycling in a rural area.
I am the latter and have around 2 or 3 minor incidents per year of which i have never actually felt in real danger, if you have many incidents try moving up here to the fantastic riding of the Lancashire / Yorkshire Pennines , widely agreed by all who live here as Gods country.
To be honest driving a car through London and surrounding areas is a nightmare so riding a bike can be no picnic.

I too am considering buying a cam of some sort... not so i can turn myself in to a 'tell-tale-tit' for want of better phrase, but to record the pure joy of travelling through the countryside at 10-20mph.

does a camera exist which is compact enough for bike mounting, can record up to say 6 hours of footage which looks good at sizes larger than a postcard (i guess this depends on memorycard size) ... has decent anti shake, night vision, etc.?

My recent review of the Contour ROAM

I'm also currently writing a 'guide' to being a video camera cyclist. Although this is very much in the draft stage and I will be asking others to contribute.

Nice list Gaz, but its ermmmm missing someone

I would probably recommend the GoPro Hero HD 2, it is better than the Contour's in low light conditions and is easier to hook up to an external battery.
Yesterday I connected my GoPro to a 12V 9800mAh Li-ion battery via a modified car cigarette lighter socket.
Using time lapse mode it ran for 8 hours, in theory it should work for over 24 hours on that battery.
The GoPro produces very good HD video just not as good as a Contour which produces a truer image and has less fish eye effect.
