It seems to me that we really need to start extending the empire of the Dayglos into supermarket car parks. Last time I drove to ASDA there were people all over the place: getting in and out of cars; wheeling trolleys; chasing kids; waiting for taxis; using cashpoints. How is a driver supposed to be able to see all this? Paint the trolleys bright pink for a start. Have an attendant handing out flashing head-beacons to all on arrival. Make all shopping bags reflective. Then I can properly exercise my inalienable right to drive around at the speed limit without looking where I am going. If only shoppers would take some responsibility for their safety.

I had this problem with a dog walker in the Winter. Pitch black road, black dog and black clothes. I stopped and had a chat and gave her a spare frog light. The frog light is now on the dog collar and she wears a relective vis vest.

So despite it being you that brings the danger to the situation you describe, it's the pedestrian and her dog that are expected to comply with your wishes and dress like Christmas trees. Just to go for a walk. Seriously?

And, as when you last told this story, you'd prefer her dog to be anything but black.

That's a classic. The person being avoided has to take all the responsibility. It's possible that the runner goes out after dark because there is hardly any traffic around to intimidate him/her, then along comes some bloke on a bike not looking where he's going ...

which is why in my first post on this topic I put the blame at the riders door as the more powerful (ykwim) entity in the transaction & suggested in my first post about the riders shortcomings in their lighting etc & even it the post you nitpick (quell surprise) I suggest shared common sense and continue the theme that the powerful entity need to look to their responsibilities, but y'know read things in isolation and leap to conclusions.

If i were to post on here that I (& their school) had advised my children about the dangers of online grooming by adults who are the more powerful entity in that transaction, seeking to take advantage of them would you be complaining that there is not a scrap of responsibility due on their shoulders to be aware of nor seek to mitigate the harm predators can pose to them?

There is a significant difference between road danger and online grooming though, in that on the road people don't pretend to be a completely different type of road user.

so abdication of any personal recognisance for your own wellbeing is ok then?

Article on BBC Breakfast this morning saying that 200 horses have been hit and 40 riders killed in the last 5 years, I think it was. Big hairy things. Quite visible.

Which could be addressed by safer driving, but that would mean some responsibility

Instead we have campaigns for wildlife, trees and domestic stock to wear HiViz

be specific, if you're taking a different stance to my suggestion that there is a place for 2 way responsibility in different walks of life including regular on-road presence what is your opinion on that, for the absence of further confusion.

anyhow not sure what happened there, small power outage in mid thunderstorm. I was going on to say about uncorrected driving vision or my own current situation with a random brain issue (now now ) , if I chose to be irresponsible , driving when I could have a seizure (al-la Glasgow bin man) theres plenty of people willing to drive impaired by drink or drugs and try to pretend not to be. Theres any number of ways that a driver can present themselves as something they're not and some of those way may have an impact on their perception of the world and others around them which could be improved with a little assistance from the person they're driving towards.
99% of the time and 99% of drivers are not in this category and are IMO perfectly decent and have no wish to kill me whether I resemble John Lewises window in December or someone than not even Ninja's can see easily.

I'm trying to keep a fox away from my girls right now, the last thing i want is them in hi-viz.

slightly OT but you can get wooly jumpers for these hardy outdoor in all temperatures wearing their own feathery eiderdown birds. people will try and nab a crust out of the unsuspecting any way they can.

I like the thinking, I'd love to catch it and give it a stern talking to or put a bell round its neck. I don't want to harm it as its only doing what comes naturally, I'd just like it not to be fixating on my girlies quite so much as its impeding them being able to do what is natural to them..

What I am specifically saying is that I, along with pretty much everyone else, am not, nor ever have, said that people shouldn't take responsibility for themselves. What we should always resist on the other hand is other people palming their responsibilities off.

ok, and where do I say that? I've been equally apportioning of blame to both and have advocated shared common sense in this very thread, so not sure what your point was. I guess you've reacted to a post in isolation of the wider conversation stream.
