Who knows anything about electric guitars? I'm looking for something.

IME amps with built in fx are not very good unless you pay quite a bit. My Marshall is a superb sounding amp but the effects are very limited and have very little control. Best to get an amp if you want an amp, and an fx unit if you want fx. But there really is a whole galaxy of options, it can never stop. My mate has 4 amps, 8 guitars, about 15 pedals and numerous other home recording watsits.

Definitely hear a YouTube review or walkthrough before you buy

To get back on topic....I went through a phase of buying lots of pedals to get the sound I wanted. Eventually, I ended up where I am today, using a simple fairly low power (15w) single channel valve amp, no pedals and using the guitar controls to get the tone I want, whether it be bright, dark, clean or dirty. The amp and guitar are very well matched to allow me to do that and I manage to get good variety of tones depending what i'm playing. The amp has really good dynamics too, which helps, so even the picking can make a noticeable difference.
