That's a very anthropocentric point of view. Think about it in terms of how the wolf's genes have modified their micro-environment (the dog) to suit the wider environment (in which humans exist). They have done such a good job that they have evolved the wolf into a creature that has very effectively domesticated us, we provide it with food, shelter, healthcare, everything it needs to survive and reproduce. Evolution in action.

By that arguement you must also say the same for cows, pigs, sheep, chickens etc.
