Apparently it's a long steering rod. You clearly know more about mechanics than I do; I thought steering rods had to be straight?

don't think they HAVE TO be straight to work but it's just on most vehicles there is no need for them to be bent

anyway, most of the vehicles i work on (tractors) have just a couple of hydraulic rams going to the stub axles and sometimes they will even have a tie rod but not always
