A friend tends to be someone I know. I don't know the cyclists in the video. I am not a responsible for their behaviour. Come to that, I'm not even responsible for the behaviour of people I do know.
Agreed, and how many times do we need to repeat this on these fora? "Our fellow cyclists are making us look bad" is a depressingly recurring theme.

The comments are pretty nasty: one advocated shooting them, and another suggested knocking them down.

I wouldn't wish injury or death on them though. If you do, that's your choice but it's a very unpleasant one.

I never wished injury or death on them either but simply stated that may be a few of them getting knocked off their bikes might open their eyes to what they are doing. They are riding uninsured and unregistered bikes on the road in an extremely dangerous way. If you want to ride like that then take it to a track or private land. But to create a following and promote their behaviour to a wider audience is abhorrent.

People in cars are motorists, people on bikes are cyclists. They don't have to race, ride sportives or belong to a cycling forum to qualify. Nobody claims that bad drivers are not really motorists.

I have a problem with being held "responsible" though.

Cyclists and Motorists are large and varied groups, but there is no individual responsibility for the actions of others

It can be explained like this:

I work for the NHS, have a beard, glasses, wear black lace up shoes and I am 58

Harold Shipman and I were both involved in Health Care, but I do not recognise any responsibility for his actions

I did say "my definition". People that climb into badly maintained rust buckets and drive without insurance (as an example) aren't really "motorists" in my mind, they just happen to be in a car. Same with a chav on an old mountain bike that he nicked, I wouldn't class that as a cyclist. To be a cyclist or a motorist I think you have to have a bit of love or enthusiasm for it, or give it a bit of application, one of the two. If you're using either one as a mere conveyance and doing that recklessly, I'm not sure you can stick an "ist" on the end of the conveyance with any real accuracy.

Some great wheelie skills there. Good on 'em. Wish I could wheelie like that.

Young lads behaving like young lads shocker.

Yes they are being daft but I bet all the grumpies on here behaved like impeccable gentlemen when they were young.

With the bonus that they pissed off some black cab drivers, what's not to like.

I would probably be sat there on my bike waiting at the lights too. I wonder how they would behave if they came across a cyclist waiting... In their path..... Youths just being youths??

Hmmmm

Got a bit close at the end of the video ! Anyone know the story behind them or are they just a local group of yoooofs ?

Read this and shudder at the grammar, or lack of it: http://ukbikelife.com/

I would guess that the Police will bring to bear the full weight of their technolgy and trace everybody involved, on motorcycles at least, in the same way as they did with the rioters a few years ago. Funny how the rioting hasn't happened again.

We were all young once and done stupid things. Let's face it, when you are young, you will live for ever , accidents happen to others and being 25 is ancient. They will grow out of it eventually and hopefully become decent, responsible human beings and even carry on cycling in their old age.
