blimey, poor bloke, what's he done to deserve that!
Believe me Crackle, he is only getting what he deserves. He may no longer come on here but that's no reason why he should have it easy..
And anyway petal, how are you? Good I hope? And doggie?
I don't think you've been near Bodelwyddan lately- the hairs on the back of my neck tend to stand up when you do.....

Hmph.... why isn't he talking to us any more? He was an amusing contributor.

I always appreciated Norm's postings - entertaining, informative and perceptive. I've an idea why he left when he did and can fully understand it. He was probably right to do so; if he were to return, he'd see that little has changed.

Still wish he hadn't gone, though - he came across, as the kind of guy with whom you could share a couple of pints - a nice fella.

He told me that he spent much of his time as a mod telling people if they didn't like it here, to walk away...he then felt compelled to take his own advice...he didn't elaborate as to why he walked though.

Lukesdad and Noodley have both recently gone as well... A bit sad to see long time members walk away from the forum.

I'm rather sad about this news ! ^^^

I emailed a forum member just a few days ago, enquiring after Lukesdad.

I've had the good fortune, to meet both Noodley & Lukesdad; meeting forum members in real life, is far better than meeting on the forum.

They both did the epic ride from Llandrindod Wells. Noodley kept me entertained and managed to distract me from noticing just how hard the ride actually was. 'Noods' was great company; I hope that he comes back and will be very sorry if he doesn't.

In my eyes, LD exemplifies the very best of Cyclechat - along with the likes of @Banjo & @ColinJ. These guys unselfishly arrange rides, for other forum members - and all are made welcome.

I rarely do any social cycling and I certainly don't do any training; technical cycling skills ? - I have none . I can't descend, use the brakes at the wrong times, wobbly steering etc. Maintenance skills ? I have none !

Lights fall off the bike when I most need them, I struggle to fix a puncture. On all the rides that I've done, I've probably been the least able rider and certainly the least experienced. The bike I ride, is at least 20 years older that those ridden by everyone else - though it looks 30 years older - 'cos of lack of maintenance . Unlike the others, who seem to have carefully considered their clothing, I don't wear Lycra and my gear certainly doesn't match. Oh yes, I frequently miss turnings and get lost and I usually linger for too long at the pub stops. You get the idea !

Despite all these shortcomings and the latent ability to be a 'nightmare' for any ride organiser, Lukesdad always made me feel most welcome . . . even after the first ride .

Sh1te rider ? No problem, LD would treat you like an old friend. If it wasn't for LD, I'd never have met the likes of Banjo, Crackle, Doseone, TC, TMN, Robjh, Noodley . . . And quite a few more, not forgetting of course, the legendary @RichP.

A rider of immense ability, LD never seemed impatient or frustrated at the fact that I must have slowed him up considerably. Oh yes, at the finish of some rides, he'd then cycle home alone - sometimes, this would be further than the ride he'd just done !

LD is one of the nicest guys I've met in many years - in cycling or elsewhere. !I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't return soon; I hope that we'll get to do a ride when the weather gets better - hopefully, with a good pub stop.

(Note to self - keep an eye on Banjo & ColinJ).

. . . . . . . he didn't elaborate as to why he walked though.

He gave some pretty strong hints, I'm sure that you'd understand why.

I thought Norm was a great asset to the forum and I was very disappointed that he left; he seemed like a kindred spirit in many ways.

It's very sad really; the forum can 'lose' a member of the calibre of Norm and the best that some could do at the time, was to out with glib comments that Norm had 'flounced' . . . such comments say far more about them, than they do about Norm. I wouldn't 'celebrate' the departure of any forum member. If we deride a member for being 'over-sensitive' and that member then leaves, what have we, the remaining members gained ? For some, a misplaced feeling of smug 'rightness'. And you know, quite a few 'sensitive' members have gone, are we really better off without them ? (Remember such characters as Redcogs ?)

We are all needed on this forum - the misguided, the crazy, the deluded and the insane . . . generally speaking, the forum has been fairly 'balanced', but I can't help feel of late, that a certain faction is beginning to 'take over'.

The net result, is that Norm has gone and the forum is poorer for this.

Oh yes, what's happened to Spire ?

Pubrunner- I have been watching this thread with interest, and unless I have missed anything, the only one to have used the word 'flounced' was me. And if read in the context in which it was written it is not a glib comment at all, and I would not say, or have anyone else say, a bad word about Norm at all. And infact, its the jumping to conclusions without actually reading, speak before you think mentality which overcomes some people on here that is possibly responsible for people getting fed up and needing to take a break. From the Norm ;)
And that too is a joke ;)

I find the thing about forum personalities is that they are a flavour of the real person.
I've met people who are very loud and brash in real life, but very quiet on the forums, and others who are very loud and brash on the forums and loud and brash in real life.

I can't abide the persona of some people on forums, but have met them and found them to be very amicable in real life. You see the best, the worst, and the same as in the real here. I guess that is the failing of the forum as an environment...it does de personalise people.
