Lukesdad and Noodley have both recently gone as well... A bit sad to see long time members walk away from the forum.
I'm rather sad about this news ! ^^^
I emailed a forum member just a few days ago, enquiring after Lukesdad.
I've had the good fortune, to meet both Noodley & Lukesdad; meeting forum members in real life, is far better than meeting on the forum.
They both did the epic ride from Llandrindod Wells. Noodley kept me entertained and managed to distract me from noticing just how hard the ride actually was. 'Noods' was great company; I hope that he comes back and will be very sorry if he doesn't.
In my eyes, LD exemplifies the very best of Cyclechat - along with the likes of @
Banjo & @
ColinJ. These guys unselfishly arrange rides, for other forum members - and all are made welcome.
I rarely do any social cycling and I certainly don't do any training; technical cycling skills ? - I have none

. I can't descend, use the brakes at the wrong times, wobbly steering etc. Maintenance skills ? I have none !
Lights fall off the bike when I most need them, I struggle to fix a puncture. On all the rides that I've done, I've probably been the least able rider and certainly the least experienced. The bike I ride, is at least 20 years older that those ridden by everyone else - though it looks 30 years older - 'cos of lack of maintenance

. Unlike the others, who seem to have carefully considered their clothing, I don't wear Lycra and my gear certainly doesn't match. Oh yes, I frequently miss turnings and get lost and I usually linger for too long at the pub stops. You get the idea !
Despite all these shortcomings and the latent ability to be a 'nightmare' for any ride organiser, Lukesdad always made me feel most welcome . . . even after the first ride

.
Sh1te rider ? No problem, LD would treat you like an old friend. If it wasn't for LD, I'd never have met the likes of Banjo, Crackle, Doseone, TC, TMN, Robjh, Noodley . . . And quite a few more, not forgetting of course, the legendary @
RichP.
A rider of immense ability, LD never seemed impatient or frustrated at the fact that I must have slowed him up considerably. Oh yes, at the finish of some rides, he'd then cycle home alone - sometimes, this would be further than the ride he'd just done !
LD is one of the nicest guys I've met in many years - in cycling or elsewhere. !I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't return soon; I hope that we'll get to do a ride when the weather gets better - hopefully, with a good pub stop.
(Note to self - keep an eye on Banjo & ColinJ).
