The weather forecast for next week doesn't look so good. Met Office are saying heavy snow in the south west (me) so I think the turbo is going to be in use a fair bit!

Went out for a swift 20 miles, which turned into a swift 15 miles and heading back out into the muddy lanes by car to rescue Chuffers after he punct*red for the second time...

The outward trip to the shops on main roads was fine with the roads cleared adequately.
The return by the scenic route was rather slow on hard packed snow and I had to get off a few times to let cars through, at least I didn't fall off.

I'm gutted. The husband is home on hols to baby sit and my bike is crying out for her first outing for five weeks and the roads are still icy. Am playing it safe and not risking it...gagging to get back on the bike! Come on thaw!!

Went on the local club run today to Chew Valley Lake. All in all about 32 miles, almost all the ice has gone round here, but it was mighty windy at times.

Took the family out for a ride in the car, through the Trough of Bowland (see photo gallery) and saw quite a few hardy types cycling up the long hill that leads back to Blackburn from the Ribble valley. Most were red-faced and grimacing in the freezing rain.

Did 22 miles and got very wet on the way back, but it was good to get out. I had my new Ay Up lights fitted but it wasn't dark enough to try them out properly. Suppose I'll have to go out again when it is dark ;)

Did a circuit of Gower, which was very windy, but also quite enjoyable. Well I thought so. the other rider, Fairweather, was not so happy. I did say that two bottles of red and a couple of Guinness' were not ideal isotonic drinks! ;)

Oh yes, nearly forgot. We were nearly taken out by a Vauxhall coming on the wrong side of the road. I just managed to swerve out of his path whilst yelling at him and Fairweather took to the verge and almost into the ditch to avoid him! The driver was quite shocked at what had happened, stopped and apologised profusely to us. I believe that was a first for us.

Have to say I was pleasantly surprised that the driver stopped, turned around and came back to appologise to us both. The Christmas spirit is still there......

I was also proud of my not going on my arse after the front wheel went off the tarmac into the mud. It must have looked hilarious as I was trying to unclip - in my mind I was saying " i've got it - i've got it - i've got it" - but I ever so nearly didn't.... the only other thing I could hear was Lard swearing for Swansea! what fun....

And I did prefer the ride the day before - quick spin to Mumbles and a stop in the Railway Inn for a pint of their finest Dark - now that's what I call a ride!

Yes I know, it was dark cloudy and drizzling when I got up at seven, now its bright and sunny, enjoy the lanes round Corley, the club was going to Mappleborough Green and would have been round the lanes around Lowsenford and Earlswood.

I thought that the roads in West Yorkshire were bad - strewth! I got 50 yards down the road and cycled into what I thought was a small puddle. It turned out to be a 6 inch deep pothole filled with water; my front wheel stopped dead but I didn't! I banged the stem with my knee and then almost castrated myself falling back onto the top tube - aargh!

The lanes were good though. ;)
