You might want to reduce the running. You ideally need to see a sports physio.

I can't run anymore due to the damaged disk and half my L1 vertebrea missing after getting knocked off my bike. I have loads of back pain but I just have to rest. I've gone from 400-500 miles a month to 100 a month if lucky.

PS an x-ray won't show anything muscular.

Yeah I understand. I guess the pain just felt more like it could be a join rather than muscular pain?

I am looking at my exercise schedule tomorrow to try and space things out. I did canicross this morning and I will do it Wednesday at the beach. At the moment I run twice a week and cycle twice a week with yoga and stretching in the other gaps.

GP's are useless. They will send you away with pain killers or advice to stop.

See a good sports physio and see what they say first. I have missing bits of my spine but the pain is actually muscular due to the strain of supporting the knackered bits.

My sports physio worked wonders after the accident. What I do know is the pain won't go away but it' also not a sign that my back is seriously damaged. If the pain is bad I need to rest it a little and get a sports massage.

What kills it now is the hike a bike needed with the MTB on unrideable terrain.

If the sports physio thinks it's more than muscle issues they will tell you and that' when it's best seeing a doc and ask for referral, e.g. slipped disc, degenerative discs etc.

I was scanned loads when my back was broken, enough for a specialist to say you'e had enough radiation for now. It did prove my discs were great for my age and I shouldn't have any long term degenerative conditions but the accident damage will cause pain ongoing.

I’m about to start a course of hydrotherapy, you could consider that

If you do see a sports Physio and it’s muscular, ask them to do acupuncture (if they don’t do it, find one who does  ). I’ve had needles stuck in all over and they’ve only helped back pain

Back pain can be referred from elsewhere or refer elsewhere, so ask the Physio to do a thorough check. Presumably if you’re new to running, you got a gait analysis before buying trainers? I’m not sure why you’ve diagnosed a joint issue? Do you have sciatica? If so definitely get checked ASAP

Try a hot bath or hot water bottle on your back at the end of every day too if you have back ache

I had surgery to resolve a slipped disc 25 years ago and my back has been pretty good considering...until I went to Prague and spent 3 days doing 000s of steps on cobbles!
